(1) The more recent the poll, the better Kamala's numbers. The averages include older polls. Some of the polls that go into the averages are actually Kamala-Trump polls that were taken before Biden had dropped out, so the respondents were answering about both Biden-Trump and Kamala-Trump (a hypothetical matchup at the time).
(2) RealClearPolitics has become right-leaning in recent years and its averages underestimated Democrats in the 2022 midterms. For example, RCP said that Washington State was a toss-up for the Senate position in 2022 ... and the Democrat won by 15%+. RCP said that Michigan governor was a toss-up .... and the Democrat won by 10%+. RCP said that Arizona Senate was a dead tie ... and the Democrat won by 5%+. RCP had the Republican up in every poll in Nevada, averaging a couple points ahead ... and he lost.
