And for 20 miles it would have to be below threshold. 150 bpm may be close to his aerobic threshold, which he could easily do for 20 miles. But not at 4:50 pace.

150 might be 99% of his max or it might be 70%. The absolute number doesn't mean much unless you have some context as to his max heart rate or threshold rate or any sort of context.
