Anyone ever had a "Sports Hernia" aka: "Sportsman's hernia", "Gilmore's groin", or &quot

this is the site of various weight training exercises that contains what i think is the alternate exercise that "not a doctor" prescribed for hip flexor and ab stength. it has helped me recover from a year long bout with osteitis pubis to the point where I can now jog 3-4 times a week without residual pain. I am using various core training exercises and the gradual build-up that Boulder Bill prescribes in getting back to running after a long lay off. So far, so good. Thanks again to everyone who has posted at this site. You have all given me ideas and advice that I could never have obtained.

Does anyone know of any success stories, ie, people who have had corrective surgury and are running pain free?

There seems to be alot of stories of people who have undergone surgery and have not come out the other side successfully?

Good for you. I'm glad things are progressing. I raced over the weekend and I got a reminder that I need to continue with the program I am doing. The day after races are the worst. I used to be doubled over; no using my abs at all. Now, I'm really fine. Just a bit sore in that area.

Also, I cannot seem to get that link of yours to work. I even went to the site (www.exrx.net) and could not locate the 'WeightExercise' link from the left column. I found 'EXERCISE' but nothing else.

How were you able to get the surgery for the day after your exam? I'm considering meeting with Dr. Meyers after suffering for a year with what I am certain is AP. It would be nice to be able to get things taken care of as quickly as possible. If I could get him to examine me one day and perform surgery the next that would be fantastic. how did you pull that off?

Also, did your insurance cover everything? Mine appears to include Dr. Meyers but I don't know yet about the hospital stay, drugs, therapy, etc.

Thanks for the help. And yes, that is the exercise. I use a weighted medicine ball and hold it between my feet. I usually do 2 sets of 15-20 with an 8# ball.

On this same aparatus, I keep my legs completely straight and try to lift them into a pike position from the veritcal position. This strengthens a different area in the lower abs. I cannot do this with any extra weight. Heck, I can barely get my legs to horizontal once or twice before I'm cooked.

Call his assistant Marcia and set up the two day appointment. He offers that option to all out of towners.

My insurance covered everything, but I'm active duty military (Tricare Prime). The hard part for me was getting the referral out. Actually, it wasn't that bad as the docs at Walter Reed said they can't help AP and had actually already sent a couple of Special Forces guys to Meyers.

The only drugs you'll get is one bottle of percocet. The hospital stay is what really costs. I think it cost about $22K. Of course, no one can tell you what it's going to cost because the pricing system in Health Care is completely bonkers.

Hey guys, im new here. I have had a weird pain now for many years. I do not know when I first started noticing it but I notice the pain when I do activitys like sudden movements, climb hills, if I slip on say icy ground the pain comes in certain postions, when I try to break say a limb in half with my leg while laying the limb on the ground, if I squeeze my knees together the pain comes, sometimes when I sit down and sit up etc. Anyways it seems the pain gets worse after exercise, like today I went in the woods and climbed alot of hills and when I got back I get a pain in the groin area and it also shoots up the side of my penis when I sit down or get up. The pain usually is hard to pin point exactly where its coming from, but usually the upper inner part of leg, testicles and penis pain. Its getting worse each year it seems, a year ago I rememember for 3 days it was painful just to walk when I first got up for the first 10 mins. That went away thank god, but still the pain comes back with phyiscal activity. I can lift weights fine, run say a mile....I cant sprint as hard as I can though. Im really confused what to do about it, ive heard surgery doesnt even work. The pain is really hard to describe, I imagine I got the injusry in football, wrestling or just lifting weights etc. Anyways it sucks, I know whats gonna make it hurt....like twisting motion sometimes rarely does...but usually putting my right leg down with alot of force like trying to break something causes it for sure. I heard Meyers and dr muschaweck are the best, but which one is really the best? Also im concerned about surgery, is it dangerous? What about sex life after surgery, you gotta let your penis get erections to keep it healthy you know...so can one do sexual activitys the same day of surgery? Is the surgery bad? If anyone can help I would be very grateful, thanks

The surgery is not dangerous, no more so than any sports injury surgery. No problem with the sex life afterwards, although sex won't be on your agenda for at least a week post-op. Meyers' surgery probably has the longest recovery because he does not do a laparoscopic procedure. The incision is about 2 inches long.

I had never had surgery in my life until this episode and I am quite pleased with how things have turned out. If, God forbid, ever need it on the right side I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to do it again.

Thanks Rundaddy, is the german doc the best though? I wanna just go ahead and get the best done. The reason I asked about sexual activity is because I have a great incurable conidtion known as peyronies thanks to the great docs that put me on some meds for my blood pressure which left me with a horrible condition for any guy....horrible. Anyways I dont want my peyronies to worsen and it will worsen if I do not get erections everyday, so is it ok to get a erection after surgery....like the same day even? Im trying to fix my peyronies now for 3 years and im making slow progress and I cannot allow one day to go by without a erection as it could lead to worsening. A sad life I know but I have no other choice at the young age of 21 unless I want sex to be a thing of the past. Who did you get surgery with and did it work? Thanks for the quick reply.

also guys I know this is gonna sound crazy, but has anyone tried Quantum Touch on this illness? I heard QT can work wonders and its not fake.

my pain is in my rectus abdominal, and it goes from my below my belly button on the left side all the way up the rectus abdominal muscle.. i noticed there are 18 different sports hernias that have been diagnosed, so i was wondering if anyone had that same pain, i have had the same terrible pain for a year and gone to see general surgeons that have no clue what a sports hernia is.

I had the surgery with Meyers and am very happy with it. It's been 7 weeks and I'm running and swimming again. I can't anything about Dr. M in Munich, except she apparently treats a lot of the professional European footballers so she must be good. I think you're in good hands either way.

yea, I think I have a sports hernia on both sides now. The right side just recently started hurting but only when I bend over or in the process of sitting down. It sucks bad, I have no clue why my right side started hurting...Ihave not done anything really stressful and out of the norm to make it hurt. I just bent over to get some water about a hour ago and got a sharp pain in my right groin and penis. This pain hurts bad and is quick and sharp. This condition sucks, I hope it will get better on my right side with time like my left side usually does.

Is it possible guys taking a few months off will let it heal, I know my left side gets alot better if I do not do any extremem exercise. Like right now it hasnt bothered me in a while, thats why im so upset that I might have a SH on my right side, who knows how bad it will get.

where should I go to get the diagonis? The pain is unbearable when I sit down or bend over, its like someone is stabbing me in the penis.

I don't think anyone's replied regarding your post on Ben Pierce.

I live in Southern California, but grewup in MN playing hockey and soccer for the last 35 years. I took long lingering chronic pain to new levels last Dec when I was playing soccer with my 14 year old's team. Long story short, I found myself in MN over the holidays and made an appointment to see Joesting, but ended up seeing Pierce, his heir apparent, as now he is retired. Nice enough guy - he says that I've got AP, but that I should go home and relax several months to see how it does and see a back guy to make sure I don't have any issues there.

AP is largely a diagnosis of exclusion. When you can rule out most everything else and you have the symptoms we have all shared here, you've most likely have AP. I'm now at the realization that I need surgery and where to go? Meyers is the guy with all the experience. Pierce is where my support system is (Mom, brother, etc live in MN)

So, my experience is that he impressed me, but I would love to hear others with some surgical experiences as well.

Guys is it possible to just have a standard droin strain or pull? I mean one that will heal? I know something is up with my left side because ive had it for many years, but my right side is new and a little different feeling painwise. Is it possible I could have pulled my groin on the right side and it will heal? I can live with the left side, in fact I have not even felt the left side in a month.....it seems to only bother me with very heavy lifting, jerky movements etc. The right side which is only 4 days new is driving me crazy....I gotta re-think every damn movement I do. Like I get up and sit down a different way because I know the pain could hit me at any time. Also the right side pain is almost only in the penis, its a very sharp shooting pain. I can't live like this for sure, somethings gotta get better. Getting up and sitting down has turned into a scary thing waiting for the sharp unbearable pain to hit. I cannot find many peeple complaning of penis pain from this.....I thought the groin pain was bad until I felt this pain.
