Hard for me to believe anyone that says "skinny distance boys (using the word boys especially)" has an "experienced filled resume." You sound like a stuck up young rich girl thats been taken care of all your life and now in the early years of your coaching career you find out you can't always get what you want.

My advice to you. Look around this summer. You will see plenty of young females getting jobs at big time programs. It's already happening. I know plenty of "skinny distance boys" out there much more qualified that can out coach, recruit and perform. But here is the real truth. Now listen carefully blonde. Your pretty looks and who you know will get you the interview. But you will get exposed. Once people find out how annoying and/or airheaded you actually are, that's a big turn off. Think about it. 30+ jobs. Something is not right.

Wow sexist much? I am a male and have applied for well over 25 jobs this last year and had 6 interviews and I have not gotten any of those jobs. I hold two Master's degrees and was a GA for 2 years, a volunteer for 5 years and then was a full time coach for 8 years at a mid major DI and I am currently out of work. Getting collegiate coaching jobs for anyone is damn hard. No need to bash another sex or another event area coach. Although I will say this in my experience the skinny distance boys seem to have a better shot at getting jobs these days. It is cheaper for an athletic department to hire one head coach to coach both XC and Track than to have two head coaches. Distance coaches have a huge leg up in the battle for head coaching positions.

UnemployedBlonde, thanks for your honesty and I'm sure its not easy for anyone but you guys do have the advantage. In my case i am a black man(well half and half white) and not a skinny distance runner. I really was looking for an entry level volunteer job to get experience but its not easy, esp when former runners get that position at their university. So, basically i'm screwed for now lol

The Missouri job is not open

I don't think it's as much as a "female hire" or a "minority hire" as people think (though it does happen). Having seen the process unfold several times I think it has more to do with the people who do the hiring already have a list of 1-3 people they are going to interview. If you are not on their list before the job gets posted, you don't really have a chance. Very few positions are posted with the intent of actually reviewing all applicants.

Really about who you know, and maybe even more about who knows you and is going to recommend you for a position. If Pat Henry, Vin Lanana, or Boo Schexnayder give you a recommendation set.

The Mizzou position is for a woman, btw.

Gee, isn't it the men's job that is open? So how would a new men's head coach affect a female distance runner. Oh yeah, that means Chris Neal must be the new head men's coach. Good one!
