THISISFREDONIA is correct. Yes Geneseo has had a very reputable past 6 years, but all of those 6 years Geneseo has under preformed. For most if not all of those 6 six years, Geneseo comes into the season much faster than they end the season. There is no growth through out the season, just trying to hold on for dear life as the season progresses. Plus, there seems to be no long term development with freshmen coming into the season. The top freshmen are run into the ground and do not make very much improvement over the course of 4 years. Their 8th place season last year should have been top 4 with the way they were running in the beginning. They did loose some key members though out the year like O'Connor, Haskell, and Ruebens, but that is part of Geneseo's past-key runners not making it to the end of the season or under preforming at the end. They have been fortunate enough to have a lot of depth to make up for some of the loses, but Geneseo should should have had at least 3 top 5 finishes in the country of the past 6 years with the talent they get on their team. Cortand's last year national championship team was no more talented 3-4 years ago when they first entered the college scene compared to Geneseo runners when they first entered college. In fact, I would say the Geneseo runners were more talented coming into college. The difference: Cortland seems to have a long term plan for their runners over a four year time span compared to Geneseo. Also, Geneseo comes in every season all cylinders firing while Cortand eases into the season with smart training and a plan to do well at Nationals. Geneseo used to handily beat Cortland year after year only a few short years ago. Cortand's long term development and the goal of performing well at Nationals as shown this long term development. Coach Woods at Geneseo only seems to care about doing well at the beginning so they can "earn" an at-large bid. Instead, he should be confident that they can be granted an auto at-large bid by placing in the top 2 at regionals, something the teams could have done 5 out of the last 6 years (the year cortland and NYU won was probably the only year the team could not have placed in the top 2). He seems to be coaching scared compared to Cortland.
