CJ has balls of steel. He doesn’t have the most talent among Americans but he isn’t a disappointment. Disappointment is not showing up or showing up doped. Cowardice is disappointment, and that’s not CJ.
edit: this is a reply to bagofsharks “Galen beat Albertson. CJ is such a disappointment.”

You’re right, apologies. I graduated from there in 03, didn’t run at time. Can you pass me some info on that 08 team, would be interested in reading up.

All I really know is what I posted. They beat York by 1 point at state with Geneva a close third. Both North and York qualified for 2008 NXN, York took second and North third.

I briefly covered XC for the Daily Herald back then.
Great run for Mantz!! Probably sub 2:10 without supershoes. With 104% conversion, it’s 2:09:42. Are supershoes giving more than 4% advantage now?
I’m getting a whole bunch of down votes. Not sure why. I am quite sure that his time is worth sub 2:10. His shoes would have to provide more than 4.2% advantage for his time not to be worth sub 2:10. In my mind, he is almost at Alberto Salazar level. Mantz is 4 minutes slower than WR, but the quality of marathoners was not as high in the Salazar days. So this is a terrific performance.
Next up: Chunko getting out the old pumpkin suit to for the haunted meet. Do you think he'll actually walk around the course this time or sit on one of the chairs from the checkin table.
Why are we letting top athletes go out at sub-14 5k pace with pacers. I get that there was a tailwind but Mantz must've been a lot closer to running an even effort since he went out on 2:01 pace & ended up 62:18/62:25. There's no way 1:57:51 pace was right for the opening 5k. A slightly slower start & it's very possible we get something a lot closer to 2:00:35.
Mantz's run was phenomenal & expected. It's clear top Americans could have been doing a little better (in terms of PBs) if they didn't gravitate towards NYC/Boston. I think 2:04 today indicates something a little stronger in optimized conditions. 2:03 potential with 10 degrees cooler temps/less wind.
