Also who cares what the result is — the real crux here as demonstrated in the last 31 pages is that Roche is a charlatan, liar, scammer...it doesn't matter if he's 1st or 31st or DNFs; what matters is he's taken advantage of a lot of people, doles out advice that's irresponsible at best and harmful at worst, and is just generally an insufferable person (but I realize to each their own).
I'd like to add that David admitted on their podcast to only reading the abstracts of some papers in the past, and then was able to confidently yap about the meaning...usually to fit the narrative. This was the first thing that made me listen with lots of caution.
You said: Summarise this thread: had thread linked here ChatGPT said: In a recent LetsRun.com forum thread titled "why does David Roche keep banging on about being in sub-4 at altitude shape?" , participants discuss ultrarunner and coach David Roche's claims of being in sub-4-minute mile shape at altitude. The original poster questions the validity of Roche's workouts, suggesting they don't align with sub-4-minute mile performance, even considering Boulder's elevation. Subsequent comments express skepticism about Roche's assertions, with some labeling him as a "con man" and others questioning his actual race times and training methodologies. The thread reflects a broader debate on the credibility of performance claims within the ultrarunning community.

Whoa really? You can find a paper that says almost anything abstracts are almost meaningless. No bueno.
lol 5th place in an ultra running race is like first place in your local 5k
See on the IG that Roche has race prize money totaling $0.00 last year. My $100.00 turkey trot purse makes me about as much of a pro runner as David 💀
He did that all for attention and views. The Roches already have all the money in the world it seems. They summer in A$$pen. Megs is probably so rich she doesn't even have to be an actual doctor but she still went to medical school and got a PhD anyway. David is probably so rich that he doesn't even have to be a lawyer anymore after going to law school. Wasn't he mentioning getting some ridiculous $18,000+ road bike or something at one point?
It makes it even worst because it sounds like they are scamming and hurting much less wealthy people financially with their coaching farm cult. Their sponsorship package with 'The Feed' alone is probably into the five figures of monetary value with filming, product, promotions and more. He didn't disclose that though.
But it's not about the money for them. That's taken care of. They like attention and power.
Exactly. Even if you strip away all of their schooling it's abundantly obvious that they are incredibly well off. Factor in the, apparently frivolous, education / student loans they claim to have and in no world do they need the cash. I mean, their trajectory says it all. Absolutely no shade to anyone who pivots careers, but in Megan's case especially, doing an MD, then PhD, but never going to residency and ultimately never doing anything with the either just reeks of privilege. But hey if your instagram handle can have "dr" in it then that's the real success story.
For how much you all obsess over the Roches, I think it’s funny that you think myself or the Chat GPT bot response are the Roches. Neither account is anywhere like the writing style of David or Megan, but I can see how that would be easy to miss when all you’re doing is looking for reasons to tear people down instead of reading the writing!
Definitely not Sage alts posting in this thread. Lol
I think David is here 99% and posting.. and Sage is probably reading along and staying away from this with a 10 foot pole lol
Fwiw I find the Roches quite fascinating. Narcissists really are an interesting bunch. I'd never trust them about anything though. And I believe David is tinkering with some half legal or straight up illegal substances currently. I don't believe carbs and his training alone lead to him doing so well last year. But that's just my opinion.
(Edit: hit send too soon sorry)

On one hand you have David, who goes out of his way to talk about how clean he is, how he willingly discloses all of his supplements, how he was able to quickly produce so much clean urine after Javelina. No joke, he went on multiple times about the color.
But on the other hand you have Sage, who has been outspoken about testing in trail running being a joke and non-existent out of competition. Or the Boulder Boys on one of their last episodes talking about how they can’t recall being tested at all in recent memory. Or you have the Stian incident and the fact that his test was handled so poorly.
I don’t trust any of it, and when a really good runner suddenly becomes a world class runner following a bike crash that “rewired his brain” (no joke, David has alluded to that), then I’m sorry, I’m calling a spade a spade.
"This was inevitable. No one in their universe could possibly express a nuanced or semi-defensible take on the Roches unless they are a Roche. That’s how these threads work:
Agree? You’re a “realist” and a “truth teller.”
Disagree, even slightly? You’re David. Or Megan. Or their close personal friend. Or their dog.
They’ll try to bait you into proving you’re not David, which is the funniest possible trap because there’s no way to do it that won’t sound even more like something David himself would say. You could post, 'I am not David Roche,' and someone will reply, 'This is exactly what David would say.'
At this point, you might as well lean in and start signing your posts: —Not David Roche™
Also, for the record, I am not currently writing this while wearing a headlamp and sprinting up a 15% grade while dictating into my phone, stopping only to yell 'Huzzah!' at passing cyclists. But I assume that won't convince anyone, either."
