On points 1&2 I disagree and firmly believe that this is a sideshow. The country absolutely does not need this right now.
On point 3 I believe he should be brought up on any charges that the evidence they are hopefully collecting direct them to as it involves our national security. I don't care how good a president was or was not while in office if they make an attempt to overthrow the election proceedings of congress.
Even Trump supporters should want him to go to court over this to prove he was not directly involved. If it is found without a shred of doubt that he was attempting to overthrow the proceeding, then trump supporters should turn their backs to him because he is not the guy, they thought he was.
If they still support him after being tried and convicted, doesn't that say something about them as well?
1) You can't disagree with my point #1, because you don't know what the charges are yet. That's just a fact.
2) You can't DISAGREE with my point #2, because it was a question to you, not a statement. You can not disagree with a question.
3) Whether or not the country needs this right now (whatever the f*ck that's supposed to mean) is immaterial. Donald Trump has been indicted because a grand jury agreed that he committed crimes...anywhere from 24 to 34 of them based on reports. We don't decide to not charge a person with crimes because the "country doesn't need this right now." When would the country be ok with charging a criminal for his crimes?
4) Your idea that Trump should go to court to prove he was not directly involved is ridiculous. What planet do you live on? From what we know publicly, he was directly involved. Of course he was. If and when he goes to court, it will not go well for him.
We don't know the specifics, but we know what the charges will be related to. Yes, any crime is secondary to crimes that threaten our national security. We do not need to create civil unrest for charges related to "hush money" given to a porn star.
So yes, I believe anything that they have been discussing other than a threat to our national security should be dismissed no matter how serious it might seem. If the Democrats try to nail down Trump on anything else, it will actually hamper and distract from the insurrection and his involvement with that.
I believe in the process of trying someone in a court of law before declaring they are guilty. You are entitled to believe that is ridiculous but we both live in the same country with the same laws and believe it or not on the same planet.
I believe that he would likely be found guilty of treason. But I want to see that proven in a court of law otherwise we are proving him right that it is a "witch hunt" designed to discredit him from his run for the next presidential election.
I have seen your posts on other topics, and I have never figured you to be the type who was completely intolerant of people with other opinions. Also, I can disagree with leading questions.
I am not telling you that you cannot disagree with me. Different opinions are how we reach consensus or at least how we used to.
As long as Trump is able to run in '24 he splits the ticket and the GOP loses. He won't be the nominee but would run as a third candidate.
Alan
Well, I could be wrong, but I can't see it. Running as a third-party candidate would call for real work on the part of the nominee.
I definitely see him running any way he can. He will because:
1) it will allow him to suck yet more contributions from the gullible
2) make prosecuting him more difficult if he gets elected, and a desperate man will do desperate things
And he will be embarrassed that he has to run as a third party candidate as something less than the candidate of the Republican Party, but he will frame it to his advantage as an outsider, and say that his position and strategy is "Perfect."
Folks. You can see why the Democrats and socialist communist evil racist leftists like Yessiree Bob one is why our great nation is dying.
To call someone eurotrash on top of clamoring for political tyranny would make Joseph Stalin and Hitler blush.
Hold on while I'll be making phone call to the Interpol and request an international arrest warrant against a pedophile and a butcherer known as Alvin Bragg.

No current Republican has the courage or the leadership to beat Trump. Trump has politically castrated every potential contender. Trump light is too afraid of Trump to say anything directly negative to him, he won't win. It's funny watching all these elected Republicans so afraid of Trump. Hell, Trump's people threatened to hang Pence and the worst he can say was that Trump was wrong to tell him to block certification of the election. All these guys (except some of the crazies) know Trump was lying about the election but they refuse to call him out.
They all know Trump is a losing candidate for the party (the independents hate him) but they are still frozen in fear.
Their only hope is that the legal system will do something to stop Trump. (Even though comically they pretend the legal is so awful for doing it)
Trump owns the party but he has also destroyed the party. The Republicans are screwed. (Just like half of the people, including lawyers, that worked for Trump)

It's true. There was a time when Republicans would have mocked the living p!ss out of anyone who got busted for paying hookers, FFS. But they were too scared to be the first one to start laughing at this dirty old perv Trump. No one even called him a wanker.
There was a time in America that you would be mocked something unmerciful for paying for sex, like some fat geek loser. But those are days are gone now. It's like Incel World now in the GOP. Losers are elevated and normal guys can't get anywhere.
There were not BLM riots. There was looting that occurred, and anyone involved in that should be arrested. I don't excuse it away at all. BLM did not sponsor or condone any of that behavior.
That's inaccurate. Multiple instances where the BLM condoned and encouraged rioting and looting. If Trump can be said to have encouraged the January 6th Capitol attacks with his words and actions, then certainly BLM and others can be said to have done the same regarding the 2020 nationwide riots. Someone deliberately put all that in motion on multiple occasions.

You are a fool if you think anything our nation has gone through in the last few years comes anywhere close to the Jan. 6 rioting...the goal of which was to stop official recognition that Joe Biden was elected our President. Was all part of a coordinated plan to throw a wrench in the works and hope to send "remand back to the states" (according to Green Bay Sweep supporter Peter Navarro) to overturn the election.
I'm not a fool. I can play the fool, but I'm not a fool.
I know exactly what Trump was trying to do with respect to the 2020 election. And I can support an argument that what various entities were trying to do with respect to the 2020 BLM riots, by condoning and encouraging the breakdown of law and order and the use of extortion, violence and fear, was just as dangerous to our democracy as what Trump was orchestrating. The motivations and (bogus) justifications may be different and they may be ones that you buy into for political reasons, but the overall goals were the same.
America is a nation founded by Christian nationalists who happened to be white. Through manifest destiny they spread our culture from see to shining see. The culture they created was loved by the whole world throughout the 20th century as seen through the popularity of our sports, entertainment and music. Our values have slipped. The world needs us to be the shining beacon of freedom and Christian values. The America of the 50s through the 80s was the best place for anyone to live in the history of human civilization. We need to get that mojo back. I believe it is already too late and it makes me sad, very sad. THe 2020 election was the watershed moment in the end of America's chances of reestablishing a christian-patriot-based culture.
What a crock of sh!t. The Founding Fathers (as flawed as they were), were very specific about freedom of religion here. They weren't "Christian values" champions. Even if they had been, Christianity has gone down a dark, dark path the last several years, so much so that it is nearly unrecognizable even from the 1970s when I was a kid.
The United States was great from the 50s to the 80s, huh? Do you think black people think that? I lived in the 70s, and man, the 70s (other than the non-disco music of the time) sucked hard. Serious economic troubles in the late 70s, Vietnam and Nixon dominated the other parts of the 70s. I remember my parents and Grandparents constantly talking about how bad the economy was...in the whole damn decade. Korean War in the 50s, American assassinations in the 60s and lots of civil unrest. WTF are you talking about?
EVERYTHING we have now is better than in that time frame...cars are better, movies are better, technology is better, entertainment is ubiquitous and better. Medicine is better. Fewer people smoke. The ONLY people who want to go back to the time you are talking about are either just completely ignorant, or they are racist and sexist and don't like the ascension of minorities and women in this country.
This nutbag is a "Christian" along with all his fellow nutbags in the congregation. Some values.

I am not telling you that you cannot disagree with me. Different opinions are how we reach consensus or at least how we used to.
1) We actually do NOT know what all of the charges are related to. You shouldn't poo poo what you THINK they are all related to anyway. It's a FELONY what he did there, and Michael Cohen went to PRISON because of it.
2) With anywhere from 24 to 34 criminal charges pending against Trump (reportedly), it is unlikely that all of them are related to the Stormy Daniels situation.
3) Trump being indicted in NY will NOT hamper anything else. It will likely just be the dam that breaks. More indictments in GA and then federally WILL happen.
4) There is no witch hunt. Just because someone is being pursued doesn't make it a witch hunt. It is clear just from what we already know, that Trump is a criminal. You only need to look at his history to know that...criminal discrimination in the 70s and 80s, very shady dealings with his casino business, Trump University Fraud (Trump had to pay $25 million in damages and the "University" was shut down, Trump Foundation Fraud (Foundation was dissolved, and he and his idiot children are not allowed to operate another "charity" inside NY), The Trump Organization Fraud that will likely end in its dissolution. Ivanka has already gotten lucky in her past with money laundering regarding diamonds. Luck eventually runs out. Trump should have minded his Ps and Qs once he was elected President, but NOOOOO, he stepped up his criminal behavior...or at least kept it going. The insurrection was bad enough, but then he STOLE classified documents and OBSTRUCTED JUSTICE when the DOJ tried to get him to return them (which is what makes it different from what Biden and Pence did). He's just a freakin' criminal, and he's going to be made to pay the price.
5) I am intolerant of people who are wrong. You are wrong. There is no reaching consensus on Donald Trump UNLESS that consensus is that he's a criminal and he needs to have his freedom taken away from him as a result.
And, again (you seem incapable of learning), Trump won't be charged with Treason...it will be a combination of sedition and conspiracy and obstruction of justice plus some other more minor things, but Treason won't be the charge.
Former Manhattan DA's office #2 Karen Friedman Agnifilo on 'Legal AF' podcast last night suggested that this could be trump's 11 payments to Cohen x 3 charges per payment -- 1 for writing the check, 1 for the fraudulent receipt, 1 for fraudulently entering it in the business record. Plus 1 for conspiracy since trump was conspiring with Cohen and Pecker. 11x3+1.

If the justice system can be used as a weapon how come Trump and all those dumb Republicans didn't use it against Democrat targets when they could? They had years of opportunity. So only Democrats know how to use the courts as a weapon? What a loser Trump is.

There is no president in history that has weighed in on judicial matters and used his "bully" pulpit more than Trump. And there is no president that has sought to obstruct judicial justice more than Trump. Especially in regards to his own family and himself.
That is why you need to ignore any an all claims that any trouble that Trump finds himself in is weaponization by political foes. It is the only argument available to them because Trump is such a guilty and stupid self-incrimination defendant that trying to defend him on any case specifics is futile.

Apparently Republicans are more virtuous and less vengeful than Democrats.
Trump was a nice President who didn’t want anything bad to happen to Hillary or Biden, so he didn’t sic prosecutors on them.
Though, he was impeached for attempting to bribe the Ukraine president into making a public investigation into Biden.

In the 70s I was happy. I felt like I had a future. I am surrounded by a culture that is too controlling for my liking. All this technology just gets in the way of an old white guy who didn't save enough for retirement. Can you really blame me and millions of other guys in the base for wanting to go back to a time where we didn't feel like second class citizens? Back when America could live a standard of living superior to the rest of the world.
