I think Delaware would be Vermont in a dual meet in track or x-c any year at the HS level. There have been a few good sap heads but the overall depth of that state is pretty poor.
Mass. has done pretty well for HS talent over the years. Go back to Art Dulong, Salazar, Coogan, Riley, Flanagan, Lambie, Roetter, Powell, Randy Thomas, Sanchez, Mike Greene, Lindsay Donaldson, the O'neil twins, Dan Dillon, Bob Hodge just to name a few.

Delaware has the worst runners of any state. Check out the times that when states. These times would not even when a district meet. WTF best in the state runs a 2:01 800, 50.26 400, 4:29 mile and a 9:53 3200. Man these guys suck.

In 2005 state meet 5 boys went 9:35 or faster for 3200 m, not bad for a state with fewer than 700,000 that has only a 6 week season.
Hey back off the Iowa boys. No big time studs from there but we do well for being corn fed and being a wrestling state. Yeah we are no Illinois when it comes to disatance running but hs running isn't that bad in iowa. The state course is pretty weak(really flat)and I think they took out the only hill a few years ago.
There is a freshmen in hs from my old hs that ran a 1:54.46 800 and also made state in 1600(4:24 won state 3A), 2mile(10:05 at state), and a member of the state winning 4 x 400 that went 3:24 at state(class 3A). Also went 16:23 at state cc as Freshmen. Granted those are no stanford/arkansas numbers but you can't say thats bad especially for a freshmen. My hs also sent a bunch of kids to a nike track meet this year and competed really well. Never did see the results but I'm pretty sure the kids from my old iowa hs competed very decently. Sorry there may be no jorge torres or alan webbs but Iowa has some good runners. A lot of kids go unnoticed there. No D2 schools there and thats why Wartburg is so good. No I'm not from wartburg.
By the way Have you heard of Missy Buttry(Shennandoah Iowa) and Josh MOEN THEY ARE BOTH FROM IOWA.(Won D3 nationals in cross in 24:34) These are rough guesses on his times in track maybe a 14:24 5k'er and 30:28 10k'r. Maybe his numbers from 2004 and not 2005
Last time I checked Missy Buttry was on this year's U.S. World Cross TEAM.
I hope this eliminates the talk of Iowa of being the worst cross state.
Indiana? I hope you are joking? I would like to see your stats on that. Indiana only has one class in track and cross so I don't know how you are basing your evidence.

i was wondering how long it was going to take someone to mention LA. i have lived in baton rouge all 22 years of my life. we're not that fast over distance, but have put out some good sprinters. jonothan wade, leonard scott, ahmad jasmine, trindon holliday are a few that come to mind. a lot of really fast guys in track are usually lured by football, which is by far the biggest religion down here. a lot of track programs in the state, especially the ones at public schools are used as a way for football coaches to keep their athletes in decent condition when basketball season is over. it's a sad fact, but apparently only the distance runners have any problems living with it.

Trey Hardee is a pretty good decathlete in college now. Alabama has somebody good at the highschool level every couple of years. Few years ago there was a 24 foot long jumper indoors (was a sophomore at the time, has done nothing sense). Had a guy ranked third in the nation for high school 800 indoor this year. Next year watch out for the DMR and the 4x800 at the highschool level out of alabama. As far as profesionals Scott Strand is the only guy from alabama that may be known who is currently running. In the past there has been jesse owens and willie smith curently resides in alabama. We dont have many but we still have a few.
