Guys and Girls NXN2019 Numbers, Predictions

Holland is the dark horse in the boys race.

Wasn’t peaking and dusted the Record for the Oregon state meet. Hasn’t been challenged all season, and has pr’d effortlessly.

Prediction: NXN champ, sub 4 in the spring, sub 840 2 mile.

Agree on Holland. And it’s a home game for him. I have been very impressed and think he can win as well.

I will take the dark horse one step further with Blanks out of Georgia. Broke the all time georgia state record by close to 17 seconds and won great American and nxn Southeast at wake med. he’s flying way under the radar from a historically weak state.

I'm taking someone who didn't spend the season racing on hardpack dirt, or on dry Southern California grass.

While I am in awe of this crop of runners, it is difficult to make direct comparisons to Virgin. He did not really have anyone to push him along back--in fact he sometimes lapped the field then whereas Young and

Sprout are often dueling against each other and there are other runners not far behind . I am still amazed by Virgin's 8:40.9 solo 2 mile hs record at the time in 90 plus degree temps and he still has more sub 9:00 and sub 8:50 2 mile performances than any other runner in US hs history.

Definitely going to be some top finishes by the Heartland boys and girls. The boys have historically done very well.

It is time for NXN to relook the regions. When an at large team places 4th in the meet, and the 2 qualifiers from the Heartland region place almost last, there is a problem, The Midwest and Heartland regions border one another but the population of the Midwest is 4 times that of the Heartland region and it showed. If you score the individual qualifiers in the meet as regional teams, the midwest scores 2nd and that is with 3 top 12 teams of guys that don't get double counted. The

Heartland scores 9th. The fix would probably be to move Illinois to the Heartland and then change the location to make it more centrally located. An easier fix would be to score the individuals and then adjust the number of qualifiers for the net year. They could do the same for the teams. How about making Illinois its own region since its teams did better than all but one of the other regions?

The 2 South region girls teams got the last 2 spots and the Northeast girls teams finished 19th and 20th.
