Runners like Tim McInerny weren't coming to CBA to run but when you have a school with such a strong running culture, chances are every kid will run at some point in their freshman year whether its XC, indoor, or outdoor.
And if they find success, chances are their younger siblings will run too. They have a freshman Matt McInerney who is possibly his younger brother. He didn’t do Xc but ran a 4:51 in the mile. Tim started xc sophomore year, so there is a possibility that his brother will too
Well, this aged well. He scored for CBA in the open race yesterday
If CBA was in the Southwest they probably wouldn’t have qualified. They placed after the 4th place SW team.
The fact that they’ve qualified 10x in row, shows how weak the NE region is. I wonder if they combined NY and NE if it would make the teams in the regions better, because it would raise the bar on qualifying.

I think they would have beaten Niwot at NXR in particular. Niwot didn’t have their best race there, but had an awesome race at NXN. CBA also beat Riverton at NXN.
Barrett ran 15.59. 16.05 at NXR. He got beat by his teammate Clifford both times. He peaked at groups. Not a good time to peak.
I'm sure we'll read that they all had the flu or jet lag, or they don't like water, or some other excuse.
In the Milesplit 50 rankings, CBA was ranked #2. They were also predicted by TullyRunners to finish #2 as well. It’s another thing that shows that the SpeedRatings in the Northeast are higher than they should be.
Also many people didn’t expect Herriman to win (and in some rankings they were moved out of the top 2) because they didn’t realize that at NXR, Herriman had an off race

Saying that the Northeast is weak because CBA has qualified for the last ten years and placed behind four southwest teams in one of those years is ridiculous. The Southwest was exceptionally strong this year. The Southwest put four teams ahead of nearly every region's best team. CBA also got sixth and was one of the better teams in the race.
They had some poor finishes between 2018-2022, but they have also had plenty of top ten finishes. They have never had a season where they looked like a team that did not belong in the race.
This year's team did not have a good race and still finished sixth. Most teams don't have good races at NXN. The teams that make the podium are special. Everything has to go right. The idiots saying CBA fell on their nose or will make excuses have clearly never made it to the big stage. We're talking about high schoolers traveling across the country the week after Thanksgiving in December at the end of a long season. A good team race at NXN is the exception, not the rule.
They did way better than I expected. I didn’t expect CBA to be in the top 10.
technically they would of been 10th if Riverton, San Clemente, Dana Hills ran as expected. It is nxn though. It is expected that some top teams will struggle. cba may have struggled but I wouldn't know. But they are from the Northeast, and they should be the most prepared for this type of course.
I really thought this was CBA's year, but I'm finally throwing in the towel for them winning a national championship unless they change their mentality. They peak for groups every year, not nationals. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, but it is what it is. They opened up at the Bowdon classic with one of the most impressive performances I've seen on that course. It wasn't a talent problem.
Also, Barret was easily expected to go top 10 at nxn. Earlier in the season at Manhattan, he beat Parra who came in 8th at nxn by 15 seconds. He might have been sick, but if not, he was just overrun after a long season and placed 59th.
I think it may hurt them that they don't travel outside of the NE any races. It gives them an inflated sense of confidence to race teams all season that aren't competitive nationally. They also don't learn to race in races that are crowded up front with difficult starts.
If I were their coach, I'd recommend they fly to another region one time during the season and run in a very competitive invitational with highly ranked teams. California might be a good option. Even if they don't perform well, it would be good practice for NXN. Then once they go to NXN, they've done it before and it's not such a shock to the system.

You do realize that these are high school students, not a pro team. It's tough enough to travel cross country for one race, let alone any more. With jet lag, missing school, the cost, it's just not feasible to expect high schoolers to do it more than once a season.
Yes, I realize they are HS teams. A lot of CO and Utah teams fly to other races during the season. If they want to WIN, it would help them. If you don't race competition all season it will hurt you when you get to nationals. If they don't want to win, then they should keep doing the same thing they're doing.
I was teammates in college with a kid from CBA. When he was in HS the kids would all run some sort of distance race, I forgot if it was a mile, mile and a half or something like that. Everyone who finished under a certain time was brought into a gym and the coaching staff would pitch joining the team to them.
I'm not sure if they still do that but it's a great strategy for recruiting and having that type of legacy will bring kids out.
Every September all freshmen run a 1.3 mile race and the top 40 or so get invited to join the xc team. Most of the time only a few kids from that group actually join who weren't on already, but the key is getting soccer players to join xc by their sophomore year. There is no mandatory athletic participation at all and completely voluntary, although students are encouraged to participate in some type of extracurricular activity.
When incoming students commit to Christian Brothers Academy, they hear plenty about the tradition that surrounds the CBA community. However, it isn’t until their first few weeks of school that these freshmen experience the he...
CBA has a “Heath Freshman run”. The run was originally intended as a recruiting tool for the cross country team, but has become a staple of the Academy tradition.
