An ultrarunner in his youth, he ran a bunch of ultras as training leading up to the walk across America.

Sooooo yeah... looking less and less likely for our 71 year old money raiser...

This dolt Laz continued to smoke cigarettes on his trans walk. He by all definitions is out of shape.

I've never understood any of these "I'll do (insert physical activity) to raise money for (insert good cause.)"

I'm just picturing someone asking if I'll donate $25 for leukemia and me telling them I will but...... they have to run 26 miles before I will agree to write such a big check.

Bake sales make sense, people like cookies and cake, so you pay a slightly higher price for something you like and the money goes to a good cause.

The same can be said of a raffle ticket. Sure here's a dollar for a chance to win a country ham or whatever... but to pay someone because they are jumping rope or doing push ups or walking is stupid and dishonest.

People chose something they want to do, then try to con others into paying for their entry by "fund raising" while also drawing additional attention to themselves for their "sainthood."

Sorry, I ain't buyin none of it.

There is no way that he did that while camping out on the road with a 25 lbs pack on. That is tuff sheit even for the best of us. Ask any AT through hiker. But we will soon find out.

The money from the gofund me page goes directly to him, he's the "good cause". His stated purpose is to "raise awareness"... anyway, people can do what they like with their money, not my problem, but what I think the appropriate thing for awareness campaigns is to offer your thoughts and prayers, not money. It's payment in kind, one intangible act for another.

I know it doesn't look good but this guy must be heard before we all jump to conclusions and deem him guilty.

For all we know, he could have a tremendous pedigree in long distance walks / hiking and just know how to tough it out. Maybe he was in Nam and learned a thing or two from the jungle.

Surely we can trust a 70 year old vest and take his word as his bond?

People can not do whatever they want. Fraud is illegal. I’ve not seen the funds request but it’s likely misleading and deceptive. Leading people to believe they are giving money to vets as opposed to giving money to fund some dude’s little personal glory adventure.

American was built on half-assedness and claiming more. The land was 'discovered' by a guy who only went half way around the world and told everyone at home he went to India. Further he claimed to 'discover' land by going a place that was discovered 10,000 years earlier and was having regular trade with the Nords for centuries.

Do you think the charity he is supposedly giving the money to would confirm how much of a donation they have received if someone emailed them? In one of the articles it states "Early on, he set up a GoFundMe page with a goal of $25,000, pledging 85% of the donations to the Disabled Veterans of America and 15% to cover his expenses." That would mean a donation of at least $50,000 to the Disabled Veterans of America.

You bring up good points. Can't argue with you. So perhaps a run across America is a reflection of the grossly exaggerated and whitewashed history of America. Gives you a lot to think about.
