Wow, you can tell that the Dr. Brown question was quite a kick to the liver for her. She instantly went from outspoken badass to slippery politician. She was visibly still reeling for the rest of the interview. What a hypocrite.

4. Dr Brown is not in power to issue a TUE. He can give a patient a prescription, of course, but it’s up to USADA or WADA to grant a TUE if I’m not mistaken.

Dr. brown saw A LOT of the top runners. I know for a fact that USATF and the USOC training centers referred athletes to Dr. Brown.

He was THE guy to go to. That doesn’t mean all these athletes were cheating.

I don’t have my copy of Running With The Buffaloes handy, but I think Brown was mentioned in that book as someone almost all endurance athletes based in Boulder in the mid to late 90s saw for treatment at one point or another.

So I am not surprised that any former Colorado runner would have seen him.

So your saying Simpson is part of the problem, but points fingers at others.

I'm not defending Simpson here, I found her answer on the Dr Brown stuff unconvincing.

However, as someone who actually has asthma and uses an albuterol inhaler before every run I'd just like to point out that as far as I know they've done multiple studies and none have shown a performance boost from using one. Asthma causes your airways to tighten up and all the inhaler does is allow your airways to function like a normal person. I think they actually recommended that people without asthma not use them.

Gotta say, I'm getting pretty annoyed with all theses people with their bogus TUEs for inhalers, making it look like it's some suspicious gray area thing. Some of us actually need these inhalers to breathe properly, and I know I wouldn't be able to lead an active life without it.

Correct. It also doesn't mean if you are a NOP athlete you are cheating.

Incidentally, Houston-native Magness was a 4:17 high school miler that became a great 4:01 high school miler. Curiously, he was a patient of Dr. Brown in high school.

I agree that the system obviously has folks taking advantage of and gaming the system, but this is patently false. Athletes do not need a TUE for thyroid medication.
