This coach doesn't seem to take responsibility for the performances of the team, its a team and it directly reflects on him how well they are prepared. My coach would always, say run as hard as you can but your fitness is what it is, you did the training. If you put an honest push the entire race we know where we are and where we need to go. The coach is literally accusing the entire team of not racing hard enough, which is hard to imagine, the other reason would be poor training, which is his job. He should have already addressed summer training, it is what it is...it sounds like he is comparing week to week. Well any moron could figure out courses are different and days are different, we are seeing swings in 20-30 degrees from day to day which can drastically affect performance. So this guy lacks perspective and clearly is blaming the runners when he needs to be looking at the big picture and I guarantee that this text will do nothing to inspire the runners to race harder or want to come to their next practice. I'd be very surprised if this coach is developing a successful program with this attitude.
But the OP, don't worry about the Pizza, and as others have said "fitness" doesn't mean what you think, but he is still picking on the runners who are underdeveloped which is the wrong approach. These are the very runners that need positive inspiration to run hard and get better, he should be pointing out positive things, even if the times where not where he hoped. it is what it is, such as I was happy to see the team warm-up together, or I was happy to see the boys team cheering for the girls team, etc. Talk about the performance in person ask the runners what went well and what didn't...don't put negative thoughts in their head it is not inspiring its demotivating...
