Christian Coleman is as fast as Lyles in the exact same time period and I’d say Lyles is easily 5x as famous.
I teach 13-15 year old kids and they all love anime (DBZ, Naruto, etc). Lyles shows up with the dancing and the Sonic socks and the rapping. Non-athletic kids with no track experience know him already. He has never run at an Olympics or been national champ before this weekend, and they tune in to watch him.
He’s being himself and, luckily for him, his natural personality is a winning one.
We don't want to anime crowd as fans for our sport. And we shouldn't be happy that there kids look up to clowns like Lyles. They are going to grow up to be clowns too.
When I was 13 I had already been working a job for 2 years. I was helping my parents pay rent. This kids are spilled and soft. They don't go outside, they just play video games. We're screwed if those kids are the future.
Boomer Activity in it's natural state.
Can't wait to see Noah go Ultra Instinct in Doha. Maybe he'll go Super Saiyan for Tokyo?
