Noah Lyles = clownshow

Drew Hunter has a 10 year, $500K/year deal with Adidas. I am sure Lyles makes at least as much per year as Hunter given the type of money there is in sprints.

$250K being the top sprinter in the world in the 200m is far below accurate. Bolt reached $20 million at his peak, and that was published in news sources.

I fully agree. There's nothing negative. Just pure joy, pure fun, pure honesty with a smile. If you want to call it immature, go ahead and do so, while you are sneering your way through life...probably with a puckered a-hole, too. As for me, I find a demonstration of fun and joy to be infective. That's a great thing in our sport.

And who cares if it is a "clownshow"? Not enough adults are willing to act like "clowns". There are Buddhist monks whose practice is laughing and acting like kids. Trying to regain a little of the purity of the spirit that was far more evident when we were younger. Look at children and the fun they exhibit, and then look at the person next to you at a red light. I'd rather be more like the child than the adult, in terms of happiness, and Noah's actions inch me in the right direction. Thanks, Noah!

You epitomize everything that is wrong with the track and field community. If anyone wonders why the sport receives zero attention except once every four years it is thanks to you boomer. Get off my lawn and go take your arthritis medicine. If you seriously think running fast times is all you need to be famous why has the majority of my track team never heard of Van Niekerk, Kejelcha, Micheal Norman, etc. More people have seen Norman’s races/post race “antics” than all three of those guys combined. I’m sorry you were triggered by one of the best talents and personalities in track and field.

I like it. He acts funny and crazy before the race, but after he does a normal celebration and congratulates other runners. That's probably the best combination. Act excited and put your personality into it, but respect others after the race is over. I think it's similar to trash-talk. By all means, start a rivalry and trash talk your opponent before an event, but have some class once it's over. No need to kick anyone while they're down. I think Noah does a great job of this.

With Lyles, he may think it is the antics that get him attention, but it is actually the youthful enthusiasm and talent that do it. He is a tremendous talent and very consistent. Those dances, esp. the one before the race, are, ahem, a matter of taste, but the interviews show why he has such a following. He is genuinely likeable. By the way, I really liked the fact that Coleman graciously congratulated him and that Lyles reciprocated immediately. We didn't need any of that negative energy. These two are currently the best in the world, and with Norman, Kerley, and Rai Benjamin, we have the leading lights of men's sprinting now for the first time in a long time.

I agree with the NCAA coach. I'm a high school coach and if one of my runners needed to call attention to himself by acting like a clown, he either wouldn't do it again or he wouldn't be running for me. Leave the juvenile stuff to the football players.

Can't stand Lyles antics either. It's not "Bolt like". Everyone compares it to him and it's not even close. He's over the top like NFL celebrations that they now allow. Celebrate all you want but he looks foolish.

Who does Lyles think he is? Jesse Owens? Ussain Bolt? Lyles has never had to work for anything in his life. Back in my day you had to serve in the war before you could dance after winning a race. I worked two jobs went to school and ran track. What does he do? He runs and dances like a donkey. Totally agree. I don't understand all these Noah Lyles haters who can't stand that he acts like his real self. Noah is a great, fun-loving guy who still has fun with his sport, despite the pressure that comes with being one of the best. He exudes joy and brings nothing but positive interest to the sport. Also, I might add that people who are having fun with what they are doing seem to perform better...at least in my experience :-)

These guys you're talking about, they are professional athletes. Their jobs are not that serious. Who cares if they dance and celebrate? The kid is 20 years old or something, he's having the time of his life. I guess the important thing to remember here is that he's having a blast and you're posting nonsense on the internet.

We have to figure out a way to balance the old men in our sport with the youth moving up the ranks. We are cannibalizing our own sport. We want it to be successful and popular, but don't want our athletes to act like real professional athletes.

Please, US athletes, keep showing your personality, because that's what the kids will latch onto and look up to. Yes, even if it's the harmless dance moves that Noah does. We want the kids to think our sport is fun, not some boring old tennis match.

Yes I agree with the coach. One of the side benefits of what Lyles does is that it helps him handle nerves and the pressure to win. When you're #1, everyone not only wants to see you win, they want to see you do it faster than the last time, which of course is not possible for each race. And I'm sure it relaxes him to some extent.

Geezer, watch the archived video of the telecast of Greene beating Surin in Sevulle, and listen to Bailey's comments. If you think there is really any difference between all those d-bag preening ego WR wannabes of past yore (your Bailey, your "Ben", and the Greenes and Carl's and blah, blah, blahs) and now, then your ignorance knows no bounds.

At least Lyles as a more fun twinged attitude about it then those other idiots. Coleman is more old school in that style, too, which is exactly why I'm not much of a fan of him (and why he tweeted what he tweeted a while ago).
