What happened to the sub-2 plan for some park in London? Wasn't that planned for later this year, involving Kipchoge?
This is the same run, they’re just changing the location

Because it's a headwind when you run the other direction.
A legal workaround would be to set up a simple out-and-back taking advantage of prevailing weather patterns to get a tailwind both ways. For example the downhill winds off of mountains regularly reverse wind direction starting in evening in many places. Just pick a cool enough weather location.
I suspect the Monaco stadium is designed to trap wind into a vortex that creates a tailwind on most of the track.
Yes the sea breeze drifts up the back straight while the home straight is sheltered from a headwind. The longer the event the bigger the gains, 100m & 200m times there are ok, 400m not bad, 800m very good, 1500m, 3kSC and 5k are all white hot.
They should just go ahead and run this on the Monaco track and be done with it. Probably do it without pacers or cars.

I wonder if Ineos’ reputation in the UK had anything to do with it. They really aren’t liked and there were protests against the cycling team. A lapped route with public access in the middle of London would be very hard to police so I wonder if common sense prevailed or even if the authorities just plain said no way.
October is the wettest month in London, which is saying a lot
Kipchoge is the best marathoner in history, but he will never break the 2 hour barrier.
At least not in a certified race, and that’s what counts.
I would prefer to see him improve his world record in Berlin, even if it’s just a few seconds. He may have a shot at breaking 2:01 in an official race.
Shutting down the Praterstern for this stunt tells a lot. There seems to be huge support by the city of Vienna. Does it extend to the economic side?

Does anyone else see these breaking 2 attempts as a complete waste? Would rather watch him win New York or Chicago..
Yup. While it’s an incredible feat, it’s not being done in a race with competition (except a clock).
Would much rather see EK run NYC.

The real question here is if it is in principle record eligible? So will they have rotation pacers again? Is the looped course a problem for a record?
They will not have rotation pacers again because then it would not be eligible record. This will make it much more difficult to come close or sub 2 compared to Monza.
Well it turns out they will ! I thought this info hadn't been disclosed yet but here it is : "and pacemakers who, like the Monza attempt, will be rotated in and out" from

I'm nervous about that as well. I'm booked, but totally screwed if they move it down even 2 days.
Yeah it's going to be the case for many (most?) people flying in, if it's not on the 12th or 13th (or maybe a 6am attempt on the 14th...) so I'm guessing they'll do everything they can to have it on the 12th barring any catastrophic weather...well rain at least.
Worse part is that if they have to cancel on the 12th and 13th it means the week-end will be spoiled by foul weather too !
First pacer named for the Vienna attempt : Augustine Choge
Hope he does better than in Chicago and NY where he was DNF if memory servers or than Kitwara in Berlin last year !
I was skeptical about the course at first but now I realise it is a ~10km loop with just two turns I think it's a pretty good choice. Mentally i think it's easier to break the race into essentially 4 laps.
Monza had too many corners (laps were only about 2.5km) and was not perfectly flat and slightly too warm.
Sub 2 is coming!
I'd rather see another fast Berlin effort, with everyone running across the sidewalks every corner.
Dude must be bored to run and win Berlin and the fact they're using rotating pacers again in Vienna means they know that 2:00 can't be broken without that, regardless of how perfect the course is. He's got so many good years left and now's the time to try to break 2:00 rather than clock (hopefully) a 2:01 in Berlin.
As long as he doesn’t eat there first! The food is awesome. Everything is “mit schlag” (with whipped cream); chocolate is considered a staple food; the cutlets are drenched in egg & flour, then fried in butter; and Sacher tortes (cake & jam) are worthy of lawsuits (over who invented them) that last decades.
If he reaches his goal, the post race feast should make history.
Wasn't too impressed by the Sachertorte, especially at the Café Sacher rates ! Quite liked some other food whose name escapes me now...actually no that was the "Wiener Schnitzel", yummy ! Some things I missed I'll make sure to sample in October :

Anyway more info has been trickling in on the attempt and it does seem like they ARE shooting for the 12th and only have the 13/20th as a reserve in case the conditions are really bad.
Start location disclosed :
the Reichsbrücke bridge. Apparently because that's where the Vienna Marathon starts too.
They were out testing the course this week-end with the pacemakers :

Are Jack Rayner and Craig Engels the same person?? LOL
An interesting 12' report here on the preparation last week-end in Vienna :
ok so weather looks ok so far on the 12th :

There is wind but from the South so the trees in park should offer good protection. I wonder when we'll find out that it's a GO ! It looks like once they decide to fly out Kip from Kenya there's no going back. There was this detailed interview by the top weather guy but I can't find it now.
