I guess the only cleanrunner was the American who was almost lapped.

Are you a friend of rekrunner by chance? ?........?
Never heard of her.
Her? I thought rekrunner was a he? ("Gary" that some posters refer to). Could rekrunner be "Gary's" wife then? ?
This is very weird wrote:

Wow!...who were you rooting for?
Earlier post someone mentioned the GDR well they would of nailed it because they nailed anabolics. Typically Anabolic Steroids raise RBC but leave little for WBC whatever Germans took besides Anabolics to offset this worked (at the 800 in Krat and Marathon, Frank Shorter nemesis)
Currently Krat looks like a sweet fit skinny woman. If she was on an anabolic protocol it seems later in life she would suffer from some form of kidney/liver disease.
I believe disease/depression/gender change was rampant with the E German swimmers. So yes you had the pre EPO days and Selective drug test days...
The fact that she's from Germany though raises suspicion, her development to a 1:55. But hey I just came from a gym that had female crossfitters who looked like her though their run time would be closer to 3 mins for 800

Truly astounding that people still believe the El G science experiment was clean.
Yeah yeah, hate with no evidence gets you nada.
No hate. Just too good to be true. Lots of red flags. Though, believe what you want, you're definitely entitled to that.

No.
He did an El G - retired as soon as proper testing came in. Or at least moved to the roads for a couple of years and then retired.
In other words, no.
He was running professionally into 2005. Already 33. Most distance runners retired by then.
It is sad to see Komen come 5th in that race. He had the most talent to win that race but did little training in 1999. Sad that we missed out on a few more years of Komen. Imagine seeing him in a race with Bekele.

I've suspected that. 'His' style comes across as not exactly masculine, and certainly not like I imagine Gary would write. Maybe it's just Paula and Gary doesn't even know, but she's letting us subtly think it's Gary?
I wonder if there's actually ANY regular posters here who aren't in fact famous runners?

Subway Surfers was an innocent young lad back then, me too.
Now I watch the race and can't help but see the EPO trails coming out of their backsides.
Still an epic race though, especially with the benefit of hindsight.

I think it would be easy to do. They could post under multiple handles and no one would know. They could pop in on a thread, give their 2 cents worth and pop out. I would guess there are quite a few current & former top elites who post here. And who wouldn't want to read a thread and comments (positive and negative) about themselves.

I'm not a famous runner
Here's another classic race from that era just uploaded on YouTube, with a bit of background at the start too. When Alan Webb was the future - breaking Jim Ryun's High School mile record behind El G and Lagat.
Amazing to think that Jakob ran over a second faster in the same event/meet when a year younger.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC56qHrECTA
Jakob even ran it very similarly to Webb
Lagat was really fading...I believe Webb has a solid record against Lagat. One heck of a close by Sullivan! I bet he had a few Arboretum Hill and "Michigan" Sessions before this.
Coach Sullivan, can you please provide a few training highlights going into this race?

That would explain their two different styles: one is obfuscating and lecturing, the other one lying and insulting.
Geb being out sprinted by a Moroccan!
Hissou was obviously new to the scene here.
In reality, I'm neither one. Looks like you need to find yourself another explanation. I will admit to sometimes lecturing, and sometimes insulting, though I try to keep it subdued.
