That's nice, but outside the Centrowitz, the US still has 4 other guys in the the top 50 in the world in the 1500. That's something that's not even close in the marathon. In the 3000, the US is killing it. 3 guys in the top 10 in the world!!!

Who cares about the slow Kipchoge going only 4:40 per mile. That's for runners who NEEDED to move up in distance.

Been to Pre a couple of times. The intensity when the 1500/mile is on is amazing. I've noticed that in the DL meets and any world events as well.

Haha. I can get behind this. Seems like east Africans are concerned a little less about what others are doing and don't feel the need to post pictures on Instagram everytime they do a workout. However, there's money there so I guess we can't really blame people for doing it. Could be a marketing thing worked into their contracts?

Seems like the simple life style African's live (and where they live) may be conducive to better training and development.

Lol. The 100m sprinters are just those who moved up from the 30m run because they can't run under 3.8 (Green's and Bolts records).

Some soccer players have recorded 3.6.

Are people really this stupid to not realize GENETICS plays a huge role in running? I mean if genetics weren't involved then why are most of the great Kenyans from the Kalenjin tribe? If genetics aren't involved, then why don't you will yourself to be a world-class sprinter?

Genetics play a huge role in running in that if you're of large build you will not do well in a marathon. You could do well with a medium build in the 5000 & 10000 (see Solinsky & Vernon), but not more than that.

It's NOT either/or.

Genetics + hard work+opportunity + PEDs = success.

You need to take a step back. In Eastern Africa, running to and from locations is very common. Here, it is not. In Eastern Africa, running at an early age is very common. Here, it is not. By and large, if you take group "A" with 600,000 candidates compared to group "B" with 10,000 candidates, you are more likely to have more top quality runners from group "A"

This is a microcosm of USA compared to Eastern Africa's volume of distance runners.

What sport do most young men in America aspire to play when they are adult? Right now in 2018, it's the NBA. Next, it's the NFL. Then it's soccer, MLB, and lacrosse. Running is way way down that list.

Go to Eastern Africa, and it's always #1 or #2. Easy to figure out why there are more great basketball players from USA, and more great distance runners from Eastern Africa.

That summary of how many below 2:12 in a decade doesn't say that much about the top guys. Since 2000, we've had Khannouchi (2:05x2, 2:07), Rupp (2:06x2 and Olympic bronze), Hall (2:04:58a, 2:06:17, and 2:08), and Ritz (2:07:47), our top four guys of all time, plus Meb at 2:08:37, an Olympic silver, a New York win, and a Boston win, plus Abdi at 2:08, which is better at the top than any other 20 year period. We're hurting for quality depth but we have had quite a few top guys.

Or Japan. The Japanese work ethic and ectomorphic body type combine to form a invincible combination.

Japanese athletes are often the runner-ups to the East Africans in major international road races. It's incredible how fast they are.

No...not true. You need superb genetics to run a successful marathon. Runners with poor genetics that try to run marathons end up injured & frustrated with some of these injuries becoming chronic & permanently disabling years down the road.

As much as I'd love to see more Americans compete internationally in the marathon I'd rather live in a country where even the poorest are still well off compared to Kenya and Ethiopia.

To your last sentence. The East Africans spend most of their time outside of training sleeping and staying off their feet as well.

Professional athletes are paid to promote their sponsor. If you think that posting on IG detracts from training, then you are as dense as the poster I quoted.
