Actually yes I think there's a very good chance you could fight this expulsion/felony in court and get off. Unknowingly given drugs, didn't know what he was doing, etc.
That being said, I've done acid a bunch and even on a bad trip never would I think of raping someone...

Man why can't people just take the safe and more legal way of buying psychedelic plants and using those for trips. I've only drank and smoked pot. Wouldn't mind trying a psychedelic at some point in my life but my biggest fear (even with pot) is that it's laced with something far more dangerous.

Much better to just not take drugs at all. I declined all drug offers at college even the one time when I got jeered at for it. No regrets at all. The group I was hanging out with when I refused to smoke a joint later decided they wanted to get hold of heroin. That isn't 'cool' its effing stupid.

Lesson here is don't take psychedelics if you're not a-ok mentally or in a bad environment. Good trips can have such a positive effect on your life. I honestly, unironically believe that if everybody took acid once and had a good trip, the world would be a much better place.
I’ve had friends do some out of character crap when far too drunk or on mushrooms. Nothing to this level, but still. I don’t know this kid, but I would suspect that to have gotten to where he is now he had previously never behaved this way. It is likely this is totally out of character and caused by a bad trip. The thing he voluntarily did wrong was choosing to take drugs, but we don’t know if he was given the drugs he thought he was choosing to take, they may well have been laced. The worst part is that he harmed innocent people, but what punishment is actually necessary and to what end? He made a bad choice for sure, but was it an informed bad choice? Was it only acid or was he given something he did not choose to take? Regardless, to have your whole life destroyed because of a bad trip? Seems tragic. I still feel more sorry for the innocent girls for whom this must have been terrifying, but it’s also sad to see a very young man’s life destroyed by a bad trip.

In fact, bipolars and schizophrenic s would be attracted to such drugs and also be the most damaged by it.
The only LSD that is safe and healthy is long, slow, distance.

First sentence is a matter of being honest with yourself. If you're stressed out, repressing stuff, feeling depressed, whatever, you know it. Don't do psychedelics then, but wait until things are going better for you.
Second sentence is only an argument for legalisation really. People who are likely to experience a psychosis are vastly in the minority, yet we ban an otherwise completely harmless substance, nominally to protect that minority. In practice, a dealer doesn't care if you're likely to have a psychosis and even if he did, he probably can't recognize it. If we really cared about protecting people, we'd legalise, inform people truthfully and regulate so that people who shouldn't do certain drugs won't do it, but everybody else can.

Nah man, it's sad when a kid's life is destroyed by an unfortunate accident or losing a limb in war, etc.
He chose to spend his day doing drugs. There are inherent risks involved. He knew it was illegal.
I believe that people can take psychedelics responsibly. He should have been more prepared for his experience. The responsibility falls on him and he needs to see punishment.
Taking drugs and trying to rape women should never not lead to jail time.
