I don't doubt that whatsoever, but there is no-one here granting the Americans an aura of being 'squeaky clean' and 'without fault', so there is no need for me to post any evidence of the contrary.
Oh contrare.
Have you read these boards with any regularity? Have you EVER seen an allegation of doping for Ritz, Webb, Culpepper, Meb, Browne, Kennedy, Goucher, Abdi, or any good American distance runner save the most obvious (Flojo, Regina, et. al.)?
No. And why not? (Note: I am not advocating drug accusations, but playing devil's advocate).
Kennedy is a 12:58/7:30 runner. That's unbelievably fast.
Goucher 3:54/7:34/13:11.
Webb 3:32/3:50/8:11.
Ritz 7:43/13:22/27:38.
Abdi 27:33.
Meb 27:13/Olympic silver
Culpepper 27:33/2:09:32
Browne 27:42/2:11:35.
Those are unreal times. Why are they not doping and the 2:06 Kenyans or the 12:55 Kenyans?
There are NOT scores of Kenyans that fast. Only 40 men have EVER broken 13:00 for 5K. A number, of course, are Kenyans. But there are also Moroccans, Ethiopians, a German, an Aussie, an American, etc.
It can be done. It is an extraordinary athletic feat, it takes a lifetime of training, the race itself is great pain, some people who have done it HAVE cheated (Mourhit, Said-Sief), but it CAN and HAS been done cleanly.
Now, if YOU'RE going to claim that ALL Kenyans are the best humans on earth and that they ALL don't believe in doping, then YOU provide the proof. Or, you could retract your original statement and instead say that "most Kenyans are hard-working and don't believe in drugs, etc...".
Look, I'm sure you've read the articles.
Kenyans, by nature, are very humble and generous people. That's general, but it is true.
Think of Tergat. What a class act. Tanui; another class act. Kipchoge; smart guy, nice guy, consoling his rival Bekele during his grief.
I've read SCORES of stories about Kenyans living in sparse habitations and yet offering a room to some tourist runner who just shows up, feeding him and taking care of him so he can write a story which may not even portray these guys favorably. Many of them are Christians, and not just nominally. Same with the Kenyan women.
Lornah is running a wonderful program for women to succeed in Kenya.
Catherine Ndereba; you'd be hard pressed to find someone more mild and more pleasant than her.
Tegla had a big run sponsored this year for peace and victims of land mines.
There is my proof.
