A good coach should NEVER tell a runner to "slow down" during practice

i agree because i have a running coach who picks favorites im known as a disorganized or unresposible runner and though my times and grades prove i should be in varsity im not she is always trying to run with me not allowing me to go faster or past her and it's clear she dislikes me too bc she finds the smallest thing about me and use's it agents me to pull me out of a race to fill in the other girls but the biggest thing she dose is slow me down by putting me with the slower girls during fast runs and during this we are not allowed to leave our partners bc wear out of coaches sight

Based solely on this bit of prose you've graced us with, I'm going to respectfully disagree.

Well, I watched all episodes of Team Ingebrigtsen, and one thing that stood out to me was hearing Gjert telling Henrik to slow down on several occasions. And Henrik ran 3:31.46 for 1500 meters.

Henrik would have ran 3:27 if he had just slowed down more often in training. He always wanted to crush workouts and it led to his injuries.

Enjoy running 430 bc it’s hard to get better if you don’t listen to your coach. Very very few people can coach themselves successfully. Every workout should have a purpose and if you are running faster than your coach has prescribed than you are subverting his or her plans.

Also the physiological and mental stress can be dramatically different depending on how you open and close. Imagine you are supposed to do 8x400 in 62 with 200m jog rest and you open with 58.x, 60.x and close with 65-66. You can still average 62 but if you bust a gut to crank out some 65s at the end, you’ll suffer in the long run.
