"Scarcity marketing" - it's a thing. And it produces results when done "right". It's annoying as hell, but it's a free country.
This is what I don’t get. I think I understand scarcity marketing for collectables, but these are shoes designed to be used and then another pair bought. In the year since they have been released I’ve not been able to get a pair, and have been through 4 pairs of Adios in that time. Only one guy I know has a pair out of a dozen who would buy them if they could. I feel like they haven’t cashed in on the concept, especially if other companies come out with something similar soon.
Can someone who knows marketing explain to me hoe they benefit here?
It's very easy to get these shoes when they're released. Download the nike app on your phone, create a Nike Plus account, and sign up for push notification alerts when the vaporfly 4%'s are available. That's what I did and I was able to buy gray and navy pairs at retail value when they were released. For the Navy release, Nike also issued a press release a couple days before saying the day that they were going to be made available. It's really pretty easy to get them if you actually want to.
