Perfect move? Dirty move in my opinion. The rule book needs to be replaced. I'd put Muir 2nd as she wold have come by.

There was a lapped runner along the final stretch so all of them were moving wide. Commentators were even agreeing that it was a fair move by Hassan and not foul play.

We basically have one penalty in our sports and it's a DQ. So we are debating that. It's what everyone does in every sport.

you are absolutely right. She shifted gears so many different times. It was great to see. She even sped up down the stretch when it looked like she was going to slow up.

The real test though is going to be at 1500m.

Are you crackers! Hassan's best chance to catch to catch Dibaba was to stay in the inside lane ( the shortest route )

The only reason she would move across the lanes would be to impede Laura.

Interesting: Dibaba ran her final 2000m in 5:29, faster than the second fastest of all time... only slower to her WR.

I'm all for allowing bumping and jostling in the middle of races - disqualifying people for moves halfway through the race is petty - but track races obviously shouldn't allow physically blocking your opponent. It's not tactics, it's cheating.

Dibaba should be DQd as well

They were not moving wide for the lapped runner. She was so far ahead there was no chance they would encounter her before the finish line. Hassan was being an obvious brat.

Klosterhalfen is still learning how to run races, she doesn't have the speed to stay with the leaders in a tactical race like this.

Good result for Houlihan in the strongest field at 3k we've seen for a very long time - no way is she on a level with the top four in this race - but she made it kind of close. Obiri was so dominant outdoors last year it's kind of a shock she wasn't close to a medal here. An ok result for Muir (no prior World medals), her race does pose the question whether she will ever be able to take the last step to get gold at a world championship event. Hassan showed a great turn of speed on the last laps, but she's definitely a road hazard. Dibaba was herself, but didn't quite bring her "A" game today - even so good enough to win decisively.

Not sure how closing in 5:29 for the last 3k and 2:37 for the last 1k is "Not A-level".

If you look at the best times at 1500m outdoors (I know this was the 3000m indoors), it is clearthat Dibaba and Hassan are special talents. This is indeed a good result for Muir, and if she can get bronze medals outdoors in 2019 and 2020, this will be great for her. Maybe the others won't be at their best anymore and gold will become possible,, but this is hardly possible to beat Dibaba when she plays her A-game.
