Yes, there were multiple steps on the line. Look here:

You have to open it and look through the comments. Clearly a step on the line.

First, the inner line of steeple area is a "curve" regardless of whether it's curved or not (poor design).

Next, that is the first infraction...Quigley then steps on the line again on the actually curve.

The rule regarding stepping out on a straight explicitly includes any straight portion of steeple diversion. The text was posted on the previous page.

How is this a debate. She broke the rules entirely on her own. USATF admitted it and isn't filing an appeal. If we allow people to step on the line, which is clearly breaking the rules, where does it stop? Then you have to make subjective judgments on whether or not someone gained an advantage, was it important to the particular race etc. There's a 100% objective rule and she broke it, end of story.

And before some knob head comes in crying about Mo, he got pushed. If you DQ people that get pushed someone could just push everyone off the track and walk in. This isn't wrestling.

My bad if that's the case...when I ran the steeple in college was always told the inner line was a curve so stay off of it.

The rule says the curved part of the diversion, not the curve. The straight portion of the water jump is not curved.

It looks like she did take several steps on the curved portion leading up to the jump, though. That's where the DQ occurred.

Didn't Mekhissi (aka France) file a protest like they did in Rio? Weak the guy can no longer win a medal without a protest.

I brought it up on twitter. Why don't we just come up with a time penalty (add say 1 second) instead of invalidating the whole race?

Require championship level venues to have a rail seems like an easier fix that would make this all moot. Just my 2 cents.

Well, two points:1. This was not the only step on the line. Quigley also clearly stepped on the line on the curve as well.2. The "no advantage" for stepping on the line on the straight is a kind of positive defense--as I read the rule the assumption is that stepping on the line is an advantage and the referee has to positively rule that there wasn't. But this doesn't come into play on this DQ (see point 1).
