Truly stunning how many nasty, trashy, horrible, cruel people there are on this thread. It was a scenic highway, known as a cycling destination, specifically designated for that purpose. The sign said cyclists make use full lane. The motorist could easily have killed the cyclist and then drove away. This is not something on which reasonable people can disagree. There is a right answer and a wrong answer here. Full stop.

Also, the idea that the cyclist was making it difficult to pass is nonsense. What was preventing the driver from moving completely into the left lane?
And just because people don't seem to be grasping this, I will mention one more time that the sign explicitly states that cyclists are to use the whole lane.
If your reaction is anger at the cyclist, I have news for you: you are not that important.
All you anti-bike people need to stop acting like you have some altruistic motive about drivers being slowed down. Regardless of whether or not the cyclist is acting wrong, the fact of the matter is that you think you are more important and take it as the biggest slight in the world that someone would dare slow you down.
There are two types of respect: respect as an authority figure, and respect as a human being. All too often, the attitude (both ways) in these types of encounters becomes "I will only respect you as a human if you first respect me as an authority figure."
Not that it is the case here, but often the only thing that a cyclist is guilty of is existing in the same space as a psychopath who thinks everyone should completely clear the road for him because he lives under the delusion that he is king of the world.

how slow were these guys going if the go pro guy was able to stop after the crash without even overtaking the guy on the ground?
That's attempted murder and he should spend years in jail, but why do cyclists ride shoulder to shoulder taking up an entire lane? You're just asking for trouble ......and they go it.

Because they were on a scenic roadway with a sign telling cyclists to use the whole road. I believe this has been covered already.
I wonder what happened in the minute or so before the accident. Wonder if they honked their horns to try and get them to go single file or if the cyclust acted in an aggressive manner?
This happened on the Natchez Teace where there are numerous signs posted saying that cyclists have the right to use the full lane. 100% the drivers fault. Person driving was a local and if using the road should know the laws (which likely he was doing as a cut through given the location, which this road is not designed for). He knew he was in the wrong so sped away. But, he has connections here in Nashville so will be cleared of all charges.
On a side note. Don't ever wear what the guy who got hit was wearing:
Black jersey
Dark gray bike shorts
Black helmet
You wear that and you blend into the road. Wear bright clothing.

The cyclist was obviously making no effort to ride towards the right side of the road. He seemed to be riding down the middle of the road as if he were flipping everyone off.
The driver didn't hit him directly. He moved over and bumped him with the side of his front fender. It was almost as if he meant to cut him off and scare him, but misjudged the distance.
I have little sympathy for the clown on the bike. Sorry, I know that's not the PC response.

That said, make no mistake that I believe the driver should be in jail for attempted murder. Five years minimum, no parole.

The 'common sense' and 'common courtesy' suggestion was in reference to the cyclist not the driver. I'm sorry you didn't understand my point.
Common sense: Even if the law allows you to ride down the middle of the road it doesn't matter if you're right if you wind up dead. It's safer to ride off towards the right side of the road. That's common sense.
Common courtesy: Even if the law allows you to ride down the middle of the road and you know there is traffic trying to get by it is courteous to move over. Kind of like holding the door open for someone. Common courtesy.
