Does an elite 6 min/mile easy pace feels just like a hobby jogger 8 min pace?

This whole hobby jogger business is so far out of hand. It's just an elusive term at this point, pointing at nothing any two people can agree on.

I think here at let's run a hobby jogger is someone doesn't have an official Wikipedia page indicating "WR" by their numbers.

Everything is relative and it's supposed to be.

The stress you place on an Honda Accord going 90 mph is sensible. A Lamborghini going 90 could be shifting from 1st to 2nd gear.

There is not one mammal on Earth who could outrun even a hobby jogger marathoner (over a marathon).

Fleming is just an example. Steve Jones trained in a similar way and achieved a lot more than some random japanese.

Yes. I've broken 14 (admittedly off low mileage - 60) which corresponds to about to a 2:14 marathon according to Tinman. I feel jerky and out of tune if I'm not running sub 6

A 6:56 mile certainly does not feel “easy” but I have run 26 5:56 miles in a row...

You must have not heard of "brains."

According to LRC, Hobby Jogger is a vast category that includes masters 2:50 marathoners all the way to power walkers just trying to finish before the 7:30 cutoff. So... depends which type of hobby jogger you mean.

Here, I agree with your friend, though I don’t know how you feel at 7:30 pace.

Holding 6 flat pace can be easy to do for an elite runner. I could get on a treadmill and hold 6 flat pace for 30 minutes and feel comfortable.

But that’s not the same as easy pace.

I think that’s where you’re talking past the each other. One is thinking easy effort while the other is thinking easy pace.
There is still “effort” in easy effort.

I think the real issue is that Hobby Joggers think their 4:30-6:00 marathon feels the same as an elite's 2:10. I don't think the average Hobby Jogger understands or respects the faster runners pushing their limits compared to their getting to the finish.

It doesn't really matter except that:

The slower runners seem to make it a point to claim that they are the same.

I think there would be more appreciation for the elites if people understood that they aren't the same.

I typically run 6:05-5:55 for my normal runs of around 8 miles. it feels easy after I warm up of about 2 slow miles. it feels very easy - it's my 'natural' easy pace and I'm able to get into a rhythm and cruise

My 5k PR is only 14:05 as well. So for people like Cheptegei it'd be far easier
