Sample bias - most of the women that SHE KNOWS. Who does she really know that closely in track to know such personal details. Her knowledge otherwise is unsubstantiated hearsay.

Yes, I realize that kids aren't taught this in the fourth grade anymore, because their teachers don't know the who/whom distinction.

I think she's trying to bring attention to an important issue, which is that it's still relatively challenging to prevent pregnancy. Many women, such as myself, cannot take hormonal birth control due to various health issues. (Migraine condition here.) As an athlete, taking the pill just seems like not a great option. Condoms are just not that reliable. While perhaps "most" female athletes haven't had abortions, i bet a lot have, and it seems to me that she wishes they didn't have to go through what she did - or the alternative, an unwanted pregnancy.

Also, she says she forgives herself, so pro-choice or not, it seems to me that for her personally, she believes the abortion was a sin.

I think it is very brave of her to share this with the world.

Likely the book editors required (or insisted) on something EDGY for the book. So she "saved" her abortion experience for the book.

I think it's worth pointing out that her conformational bias and population which she was surrounded would affect her perspective on the frequency of abortion in track and field.

Also, if you read between the lines in her comments, and follow the money(which it's often a good idea to do)it's critical to understand that hers and other's Nike contracts are legally voidable if a pregnancy occurs. Again what people aren't realizing is the longer term financial ramifications than even one season missed due to carrying a fetus. I have the feeling she still enjoys some sort of business relationship with Nike and thus doesn't want to spill this part.

Excellent decision by SRR. Very wise, and very much in the interests of her future family. The cells that die off from the pills taken in a medical abortion really don't mind.

At least 1 in 4 women will have an abortion in their lives, probably more than 1/3. Working as a GP in the US, many of my patients have done this, obviously, and even in my diverse practice population those getting abortions were overwhelmingly white and well-off (factors that are predictive of aborting).

There is actually very strong anti-abortion sentiment among many black communities. The institutions that support abortion and birth control the most, such as Planned Parenthood, Marie Stopes and the Population Council, are actually founded and run by white people.

Yeah, her statement is obviously not true. There is no way every single track athlete she has met has had abortions. I don't know if her intent was to rile up her audience by false pretenses or rather just a regular sight of woman exaggering and using the word literally incorrectly to glorify gossip. Probably a little of both.

People, it could not be more obvious that she means that she does not know OF a single athlete who hasn't had an abortion. If those she has explicitly discussed abortion with, all have had abortions.
