Mr. Checkett paid $5,000 to run a 4:45:14 Boston marathon and steal a finisher's medal for his wife because they both deserved one.
I have no problem with this.

the extra medals are packed up returned to the vendor and melted down to ensure there can be no unearned medals in the world, ironically many of them are melted down into kids medals like for baseball and soccer

i felt very bad, but didn't know what to do with the second medal so i just brought it home and they're both sitting in a drawer or a box somewhere.

And it absolutely was all about him, since he had a medal but didn't want to part with it, so he stole one for her so he could keep his own. Then, he wanted to show off what a good guy he was and posted about his theft on social media. It's hard to imagine that anyone would actually think this was a positive thing.
I think finisher medals are lame, but stealing a medal instead of giving your own medal to your wife is pure scum bag behaviour. Supporting his theft makes you worse. He at least apologised for his bad behaviour.
And think it through a little, fool. If he's allowed to steal and extra medal, so is everyone. Why can't they take a handful? Where does that end? Everyone is allowed as many medals as they want. How do you see that working out? Idiot.

I'm about half way through the 2016 photos and have only found one guy with a medal on their his blanket. I'll report back when I figure out his name.

I handed them out in 2014. There were a bunch left over so a lot of us just took a handful. BAA members can get in big trouble if they sell extras or give them away. I just gave them to a friend who sold them on ebay, craigslist, or to friends and we split the money. It was amazing what people would pay for them.

I know this is a joke, but still, if you are a volunteer, your time is in fact free, by definition.
I never thought I would have a use for my Disney marathon, half marathon and other medals until I realized people (a lot of times Disney collectors) will pay big bucks for Disney stuff that is (for Disney purposes) a very limited production run. Just like their stupid pins. Remember the PT Barnum quote.
