Alberto coaching Rupp for Oregon?

Why did the other atheltes on the Oregon team leave their high school coaches? I mean some of them had real good success under those HS coaches. I just don't understand why they accepted a scholarship to run for the Ducks and left their coaches that got them to the level to earn a scholarship. Can someone explain that to me?

All I'm saying is so then- is saying Tyson is a puppet because Rupp is apparently doing all the same workouts as the team and Salazar is still coaching Rupp. That hasn't been said anywhere but in an earlier post on this thread. If that was accurate, Tyson would be a puppet. However, I'm pretty sure that doesn't accurately describe the situation in Eugene.

Here's an Idea, since it would be so inconvienent for Rupp to start working with a new coach after 4 years of success; how about the guys who have been at Oregon for five years, Eric Logsdon and Brett Holts, who combine for 7 all-american awards, (i'd consider that success), bring in a special volunteer coach named Martin Smith. Hell, their families could pay him, just so it'd be legal. I'm sure it's what they'd prefer. Unfortunately, established, successful collegiate athletes have to go through a coaching change from a man it seems they were extremely loyal too and had a lot of respect for in their last college season. If Rupp switched coaches and took a minor setback it wouldn't be an issue, these guys don't get another chance. The bottom line here is that Rupp is getting special treatment, you can argue that it's right or wrong, but there's no doubt that it's special and different from the other oregon athletes. You can speculate all you want about how THEY feel about it, all I know is that I wouldn't like it. Here's a research question for you, since Oregon didn't have any good distance runners, find out how many other schools had 19 All-American awards in the distances over the last six years. (4 for Steve Fein, 6 for Hartmann, 5 for Logsdon, and two apiece for Holts and Andrus, and I'd give any awards that Holts and Logsdon might earn this year to Smith as well.) I'm guessing there's not more than 4 programs that can match or better that. And, that was done with less scholarships for distance runners than schools focusing on distance primarilly, tons of negative local press from alberto and others detering local recruits, and the machine down south gobbling up every foot locker finalist there ever was. This is just some food for thought as they say, but interesting none the less.

Is it top 6, 8, or 10 in outdoor track who earn all-american honors?

X-C it's top 30 or 35 Americans and any non-American who finishes in the top 30 combined?

There are a group of kids who are being affected here, and they are a hell of a lot more positive about it than you all are. God forbid they ever read this site because with all the bitching they might actually be convinced than it's worse then it is.

It sucks for especially for the seniors, but it sounds like they have a positive attitude, which is something you little, hide behind a tree Negative Nancies should try to find. It probably comes from them having enough self-confidence to find a positive in things rather than a negative.

For you little mice calling Pat Tyson a puppet, here's a thought. You little farts are puppets. My bet is you can't pull yourselves away from this site long enough to have a non-running thought. The biggest achievements of your lifetimes would be to have something to post that you ACTUALLY have insight on AND post your name next to it. You are so glued into this site that it pulls yours strings.

You have no clue what's really happening or going to happen at Oregon, so stop worrying your little heads about it. Why don't you just pray to the Gods and ask them why they made you such cowardly pessimists.

Most kids believe that college coaches will be better than there high school coaches. Theoretically, and in 90% of the cases they are. If you have the kind of success that Galen had, and who have a coach with that many acheivements however, you might reconsider.

It's the top 8 overall, and 8 americans in track, my question has yet to be answered, (see previous post). I know some track nerd out there is just dieing to do teh research.

Why was Galen coached by Salazar when he was in high school, instead of by his high school coach? I think it's really pompous for Salazar to try to coach people who run for institutions that already have a coach.

How would he like it if he were the coach for a university, and some coach such as Scott Razcko came along and told him that he's going to continue to coach a runner such as Alan Webb, because he believes that it would be best for a runner such as Alan to continue with the program he's already doing (By the way, who did better at the Olympics, Nick Willis or Alan Webb)?

OTC, I don't believe that you're seeing the whole picture. Just because you're able to find a way to rationalize Alberto's actions that doesn't mean that his actions are okay. If I were Galen's high school coach I would say be coached by me or don't be a member of the team. And I say this while feeling confident that I can come up with a better training program than Salazar.

I want to anser this questio. You see Oregon used to have a very dynamic and charismatic man running the program. He is one of the best recruiters in the nation and his dedication to his dedicated athletes is unmatched. The reason that many of these runners chose to leave their high school coaches was to learn under the expert tutiledge of this man. A man the resurrected a dying program and brought it back to a leadership position in the world of college track and feild.

That is why so many of those athletes left their coach. And now they can thank some large show company (it shal remain nameless) for removing this overriding reason that they used for coming to Oregon.

Dave Frank and Alberto Salazar are the cross country and track coaches for Central Catholic high school. So Salazar was one of his high school coaches. He got Galen started in running when he was playing soccer instead. If Ron Warhurst was approached with the proposal and said no, that is how it would be. If Pat Tyson was approached with that proposal and said yes, that is the way it would be. The program coach has the final say, and in Oregon's case, it looks like Tyson is ok with this arrangement.

In case you don't get it. Al doesn't think Tyson is good enough to coach Galen to that level or he wouldn't feel it necessary to continue to meet with him three days a week moron.
