Canadian Marathon Champs controversy - Did a pacer pop-out of a van mid-race (video)?

What is going on here at this forum?

The entire 4 page thread on Ed Whitlock and his World Record Marathon M85-89 has been deleted.

(Ed Whitlock even posted on the thread last night about his racing shoes.)

fred had it withdrawn he didn't like the competition from another old fella detracting from his own magnificent achievements.

This is less about penalizing Duchene and more about penalizing the race organizers. This is a high profile event and as such, the organizers have to show that a level of trustworthiness to their participants and the sport in general.

Totally agree. Totally agree. Lanni the commentator is good friends with Duchene and the race organisers I believe as well. They all work as a team to have the outcome in their favour. It's a very crooked world out there!!

Who owns the marathon. And why do 2:35-2:40 runners need pacers.

How much money did Athletics Canada give to the marathon for the " Canadian Championships"

I guess the Scotia Bank Marathon can run their marathon any way they like,

including moving pacers around.

I'm sure the hobby joggers paying for it don't care.

And Athletics Canada doesn't give a crap about distance running.

So what can be done about this? Of course it is not mentioned on the Toronto Waterfront Marathon Website (http://www.torontowaterfrontmarathon.com/en/index.htm).

I think we need to maybe contact the IAAF. We need this to be investigated further. Maybe Toronto will be stripped of it's "GOLD LABEL" race status and maybe things will be played out fairly next time.

Well, there's no record at stake. But it is recorded by Athletics Canada as the 3rd fastest time this year for senior women. She still would hold 3rd this year anyway courtesy of Rio, so she wouldn't yet lose that ranking. It might make a good message from Athletics Canada to tell the CRS to run their events clean and stick to the rules.

Oh my.

Krista just doesn't look like the typical elite or even sub-elite runner. Dayna, and Erin Burrett look much faster but that goes to show that appearances don't mean much of anything. There's no denying Krista's talent.

Josh has a 1:19 half-marathon PR. He calls himself a professional.

We are all in awe of Josh. Josh is awesome.

I used to train with two guys who could run 1:14 half-marathons at the age of 46, and 10 miles in 59 minutes at the age of 59.

They did not call themselves professional.

Depends on your definition of 'professional' I guess. Back in Fred's hey day, in the 50's and 60's, if you received money for anything than legitimate expenses and were discovered then you were considered professional and banned from competing. Of course, the officials who made the rules had their noses well and truly in the trough.

If Josh was receiving money when he says: "2012 - 2013: Professional Male", and was putting in the requisite training hours in his chosen sport, then that makes him professional by my definition. His half-marathon during this time when he finished 1st (don't know where you got the 1:19 from) was 1:16.56.

That time would not win the women's division in half-marathons where I live in the US.

And a 1:17 half marathon is jogging. It's training pace.

Is this the same Fred that was defending the cheaters in Guelph on a bunch of other threads? Guy has a few screws loose.
