Oh please - you don't think when the top athlete in a sport isn't participating in that sport that just about everyone involved isn't wondering what is going on. But yes - you're right I don't think it will be a topic of discussion on ESPN any time soon or ever as mainstream media doesn't care much about professional female sports much less collegiate.

Unfortunately her lack development is not normal. I've read that she has always been tiny which is a normal comment from an uninformed person however this is not the issue. Lack of normal female development is a severe medical condition that could effect her ability to conceive later in life as well as result in early development of osteoporosis.

Her running career is the least of her issues at this point.

Here's an interesting project for you all. Research all the US prodigy teenage female middle and long distance runners and see how many became good pro runners who performed well at the Olympics and WC's.

Here's a tip.......there's only a very small handful who excelled as pros.

Reason....too much high intensity training early in their careers destroys their muscular skeletal systems.

Everyone here keeps blaming coach or saying things like hopefully these phenoms can get back to what they once were. It is almost assuredly the fact that they were phenoms at a young age which is now causing the issues.

It's a fact, not an opinion. You are not a doctor.

I know about the issues relating to the "female triad," but unless you are her doctor or parent or coach, you don't really know. Allie has always been about 4-5 years behind her peers in development. As a freshman she looked like a 4th or 5th grader, and now she's more like a freshman in high school. She's very slight, but does not have the hollow appearance/bony protrusions of an anorexic. Finally, did you know that in high school she was coached by her mom? So you think that her mom starved her--or encouraged her so she could get a running scholarship?

Girls don't need encouragement from others - it's the success in the sport that drives many of them to develop eating disorders all on their own. Cut a few lbs and then run a few seconds per mile faster and then maybe just a few more lbs and it just spirals out of control between restricting calories and feeling the need to run off whatever they eat. Pros may try to get their leanest optimal weight for a big race but they aren't trying to maintain that year round vs kids in high school and college with cross country and track. Many parents with good intentions miss the signs...

Most of the anorexics I've encountered over the years have the most enthusiastic/involved parents and coaches. Parents say that their kid is more talented and out-works everyone. Coaches know that the kid isn't anorexic! The kid is fast because the coach is a genius. For parent/coach/athlete to admit that the success is only illusory because it's unsustainable starvation... that's horrifying. It means the kid isn't special and the coach isn't a genius. So the circus continues until the body breaks down for good.

This is good news - hope you are not just full of S..t and that this conversation actually took place. Must be others out there on the course at Wisco that heard something similar...?

Gee, can't imaging anything like that happening. Wouldn't be the first time a stage mom did something detrimental to a child.
