never ran a 400m time trial or race. I would say that i could not have run sub 55, maybe 55.?? or 56 probably.

I is. My 51 was back when I was a sprinter in Junior College (1993/94). I would be lucky to run a 56 now.

Speed very over rated, as far as basic speed to crack 4, there was a guy I met at a clinic, sub 4 just under. Asked this guy what hs best 400 was thinking it would be someing wicked. He says 54!, Keep in mind that this guy was a sub 28:30 10k runner.

I can tell you that when you start getting in sub 3.50 races with that lack of speed it becomes very difficult tactically. The 54 was off a lot of speed work.
