What Percentage of able bodied men 40 or OVER can run even an open 400 in 53 seconds or under? my guess is it would be LESS than 5%.

...It's 51.9 ... but look at Bekele moving out into lane 2 off the curve to try and cut him off ... guess that didn't work...

Is Lagat too good to be true? I suppose it could easily be so. He was another adult braces candidate right? Sometimes I just get I feeling everyone is dirty. But even the poster that said they like to go down to a high school track meet could be sad and cynical if they wanted because I've seen and known many high schoolers to use PEDs or grey area items.
For what it's worth, Lagat's braces seemed to be a pretty clear cut cosmetic choice--he had a large gap in his front teeth that he wanted closed (you can probably find some old pictures of it from when he was in college).

Way, way, way less than that.

I like how haters want to suggest Lagat has been doping continuously for 15 years. Totally plausible.

Thats how career dopers do it-they are doped the whole time

Maybe 5% can run a 400 under 80s.
I should of wrote in the 40-45 age bracket obviously 80 year olds cant do run sub 53.
I asked a friend and he said maybe 5% of 17-30 year olds.
Not even close to 5% of any age group. Running fast is very rare.
The speediest general population you'll find by age group is 17 year olds. After that people's growth plates fuse and unless they're track athletes, they fill out and slow down. If you have 100 17 year olds in a school, you won't get 5 of them onto the track team at all let alone running sub 54. Probably at least 5 will be dunking basketballs though.
How many of those 40yls have ran 3:26 and have consistently running fast their entire lives? I don't if Lagat is dirty..he is just different!

Why is no one complaining about Lagat's Kenya origin but so much hate is poured on the 2 10k guys?
Double standards.
Lagat has been here for a while, the other guys are new. Their pretty much the new guys at work, in a frat, in the platoon, etc.
.01 percent of men over 40 could run a 53 second 400, let alone at the end of a 5000. Lagat is very impressive, and I don't think he's doping, at least not now. He'd have too much to lose getting caught now. I'd like to think he never doped, but who knows aside from him and his coaches.
Lots of folks know within the professional running world.

Exactly. Pick a random sample of 100 men over 40 and there's a pretty damn good chance that zero could run a 53.
I've always believed Lagat doped to get to 3:26, but I think he's been clean for a while. I suspect he's like a 3:28 runner clean.

He is, was and always will be clean. 100% clean. Doesn't even take supplements. Doesn't have a clue what his testosterone levels or any other levels are. Despite all the BS and scepticism on these boards, there are far fewer dopers than people would think.
