I'm going with the minority opinion, although it's only based on the replay on the nbc twitter page. Martinez trips before Montano gets close to her. Looks like she clipped the leg of the lead runner from the side and lost her balance. I will watch other replays, but so far I agree with the couple of lone wolfs blaming Martinez for her fall.

I think everyone is letting what happened after the crash cloud their judgement. From watching the replay, the first thing that happens is Martinez stumbles while trying to pass on the outside. BMart flails and loses a step, but stays on her feet. Montano, who is behind BMart at this point, can't react to the sudden deceleration and goes down after colliding with Martinez.

Everyone is calling for Montano's head and saying Martinez got screwed, but to me it looked like BMart caused the accident.

You're looking too late. At 1:35.4 Montano clips Martinez' rear foot, causong it to swivel outwards and then she contacted Wilson. If you freeze at 1:35.4, Martinez is knocked off balance from behind

At 1:35.3 you can clearly see Martinez's left foot inside of Montano's right knee.

Montano clearly fouled Martinez.

Watch the replay at 1:35.4 you can clearly (to me) see Montano run up behind Martinez and clip her foot starting a chain reaction. Martinez was knocked out of the race and Ludlow lost most of her momentum. I'm guessing the finishing order would have been Martinez, Grace, Wilson and then Ludlow.

Martinez has already stated that "someone clipped me from behind". The incident had nothing to do with Wilson who was beside Martinez on the inside. Montano clearly ran up INTO Martinez FROM BEHIND.

It's very difficult to see. Martinez seems to start her bunny hop at about 1:35.1 or 1:35.2. Montano's leg is in a position at that point to where it could have been the cause. However, I'm not completely sure about that. Martinez may have also bumped Wilson a few tenths earlier. I was vacillating on this after multiple viewings. If I had to bet I would think it's Montano's fault but I'm not 100% sure by any means.

Grace cut in on this former Tennessee runner at the 200 mark and the TN girl had to stutter step to avoid a collision that Grace almost caused. Could have been the end of her race had the TN girl not been so accommodating .

Montano is correct. As I suggested on the Day 4 thread, watch the replay on NBC Olympics' Facebook page. Martinez was the first one who tripped when she was trying to get past Wilson. Then Martinez flailed to regain balance, which tripped up Montano. Not at all excusing Montano's ensuing theatrics, nor NBC's choice to show her entire sordid final 200m. However, it looked like it was Martinez who initiated that train wreck.

Martinez did not falter until Montano came up on her. She didn't just clumsily start to trip on her own. Montano hit her foot on the back kick.
