http://eatingacademy.com/how-a-low-carb-diet-affected-my-athletic-performancePeople on keto diets do eat a lot of fat and have good blood panels. It may not be good for other reasons, I don't know.
Dr. Peter Attia show he was able to workout at 160 heart-beats/min before going anerobic on a keto diet and before the keto diet could only manage 106 beats/min if I remember correctly.
He gives a good description of respiratory quotient but he only has data of one person...which is himself. His lactate threshold improved. His VO2max decreased from 63 ml/kg/min to 56 ml/kg/min., which would not be desired by a distance runner. He then says that VO2max would only be important in a short 400m race. That statement is false. It is important in all middle distance and distance races. He also refers to VO2max as an "anaerobic cap". He also has no before and after races or time trials. He has only physiological test results.
What would be more interesting would be before and after physiological tests with before and after races/time trials with lots of athletes rather than his blog ideas that have false statements.
Oh well.
Where are your data points? Why are you calling what he said false. He has a lot more to say if you read more.
STUPID
Bumping this due to his recent deadlift PR of 400 ibs.
Looks like he's traded focused fitness in one area for another. Good for him if it makes him happy. It will be interesting if he returns to 'hobby jogging' in middle age. I can only imagine him dusting the field at a local turkey trot. At least he's not golfing or x-fit, yet.
No wonder he can't run anymore.

All these stories that keep coming out about how Ryan Hall was so weak he struggled to make dinner or play with his kids, all because of his 'elite' level training are really getting on my nerves.
This guy was clearly either training extremely badly or he had something medically wrong with him. There are hundreds of elite athletes that train hard, bring back Olympic medals and are fine.
Running does not do this to you when used correctly.
Correct, his testosterone levels had completely bottomed out; and he didn't feel right about correcting them while competing as an elite marathoner.
I really hope this is an exaggeration. Everyone should be able to lift their luggage off of a conveyor belt.
