Anyway point is, there is no sense in comparing Farah to Bekele's times. We are gonna have to learn to appreciate the performances we are seeing and stop thinking about World Records or 12:30s and 26:20s.
I watch the sport for the competition not purely for the time trials. It's great to see your favourite athlete win a medal. I don't care if Rudisha wins in 1:42 or 1:45. Both races can have their merits.

They are relying on Mo's form to dip nobody has show enough form at 5 or 10 to really worry Mo. I've never used a pb to assess someones form fitness or finishing speed as worrying. Enough breeze to slow 7:29 to 7:32 and he will peak in Rio say 7:26/7. Who is in better shape than that.
Same at 5 or 10 has anyone ran fast enough to suggest they will lead it out at under 26:40 or 12:45 pace.

As for speed, the calculator gives 50.xx for a 3:28.8/26:30 or 3:28.8/26:46, and no faster than 7:20 for those times. The calculator, I have always thought, is too generous for 3k times--as to me has been proven by the actual 3k times being substantially slower than the predictions
don't use calculators to look for 400 speed
base that on such that mo finished a slow 5k in 50.8 or canova's belief that 50/51/52 is about fastest for african 5k guys

But I think that Mo, if he has lost any speed (usually in these UK record attempts he just goes for the record but not by much), he'll get it back quickly

He is just transitioning back now to the 1500m speed that he gets for Monaco and the championships every year and getting top speed back comes quite quickly when you train for it, inside of six weeks usually
you can't assume he gets that speed back every time especially now when ancient & with cardiff in his legs - a career finishing race
7:25 is the best time for all but Komen and El Guerrouj. The list includes Bekele, Geb, Morceli, Saidi-Sief, Komen's second best time, and possibly Mourhit. Obviously, Saidi-Sief and Mourhit (maybe he ran 7:26) were EPO users and banned. Morceli ran 3:27. Komen ran 3:29/3:45/12:40. Geb ran 3:31i and 12:39/26:22 world records. Bekele ran 3:32?, 12:37, 26:17 world records. To claim that Mo could get into that territory, when his pr is 7:32, is actually somewhat aggressive, considering that he's never beaten 12:53, despite all his many titles. He is not a frontrunner and lacks the mentality to go after great times, in contrast to El G, Bekele, Geb, Coe, and others. Sit and kick or go for a British record, that is his M.O.

the 13'00 shoud certainly have been 12'52.5 / 12'55 if paced to 3k & even-pace all the way with perhaps 1'46-flat/low speed at time
