Yeah, I would be pretty amazed too if Rupp was running 145 mph. But of course its 145 mpw. That is a lot of volume. But, 30mpw is on the hydroworx. Is he running that much more than he did in 2012 in his build up to the Olympics? I'm still not ruling out Rupp in the 5000M. I still think he runs the 5000M at the trials and from there assesses his options.

Will be nice to see a Track Meet live, it has been a while since i've seen one live.... ever since Flotrack and Runnerspace decided to hijack Track and Field behind a paywall.

He should run the 5k hard at the trials to see how his legs feel after the 10k, and have a bit of payback for indoors :) . He may not win but he could make it so those who can only sit and kick don't . If he is getting back to 26:40 10k strength he can probably run 13flat, he wouldn't have a blazing kick mind you but that race would be very very fun to watch. And would be a nice fitness test for the olympics.

Did anyone click on the link? He is running 115 ground miles a week which is what he previously ran for 10,000 training. 30 miles a week is water treadmill running.

Mo posted on Instagram that he is running 120 mpw. My guess he is doing what he previously did for 10,000 training but split up into longer intervals and long run in addition to more cross training.

You're likely confused because both Hill and True DID beat Rupp at the US championships 5k. That is true, but you're still both wrong and a dick.

This is hilarious. 1 guy defends Rupp and says: "he was the top American in the 5k at Worlds even after his tough 10k". A second guy says "get your memory checked" and proceeds to repeat exactly the same thing as the first guy that he thinks he disagrees with. The third guy can actually read. The 4th guy defends the second guy by saying: "you need to fact check, Rupp DID finish as top American!" even though no one in this conversation ever claimed otherwise.

How long until Rupp gets the American record in the marathon and where does he do it?

Don't practically all world class distance runners end up this way? Keep on amping up the training to the limit/sweetspot where you get the best performance, but fall just shy of physical break down? Eventually everyone hits that limit. For freaks like Lagat/Haile, their bodies took more abuse than most, and they were lucky that their limits were at the world best level and didn't have to push past the break point. For guys like Ritz, True, Hall and Rupp, they are not quite world beaters at their training limits. They keep on amping it up until their bodies fail. The only real alternative would be satisfaction with making a major final but never winning.

Hypothetically, if Galen were to only run the 10k at the Olympics and got the bronze medal, would his race be a success or would it be a disappointment? Getting a medal is super special and you are among the elite if you get one, but does it make a difference that he already had a silver from 2012?

Lasse Viren, and many of the other world class runners of his era actually raced quite frequently . In 1976 Viren raced 18 times prior to Montreal . In 1980 he raced 17 times prior to Moscow . Most of the early in the year races were

longer type road races (IE San Blas 1/2 Mar. ) followed by numerous track races (1500-5,000) in the last few months prior to the Games. Granted he trained thru these races and they were part of his "training"

leading up to the Olympics. I don't get todays elites racing so infrequently.

Racing during their build up and peaking for the Olympics is not a zero some game. I would argue a competitive 1/2 marathon in March or a 1,500 track race in June is going to help an athlete more than another quality "hard'

taining session. Not to mention for the good of the sport it would be nice if these athletes made themselves more visible on the racing circuit as opposed

to the hermit like approach many of them take.

Ironically, Viren was criticised by ignorant people for not racing between Games.

Salazar raced quite a bit too.

Carlos Lopes raced every week in '84 leading up to his WCCC and Olympic marathon victories.

No where did I say those runners who concentrated on one or two races a year did not run other races. I did say those races were for preparation purposes. This is what Viren did. Viren never won San Blas. He'd do well, but he was deep in heavy training for the Summer.

So we are in violent agreement.

Rupp could be skipping Oxy for a variety of reasons, but getting beat was probably not one of them. It appears he's running high mileage and the 5k does not fit with his current training.

Getting beat was probably one of the reasons. That is not good for the psyche.

The 5k does not fit, and hasn't fit, as a training goal for a long time. The 10k, the half, and the marathon are fits. This has been obvious for the last year.

Why would Mo's training have changed at all? And it's laughable to think that Mo Farah is doing any cross training. Furthermore I don't know what you're getting at with the "split up into longer intervals" thing.

Lagat always kept low mileage.

Rio: Marathon (August 2016)

Amsterdam Marathon (October 2016)

No other races in 2016.

What about New York? Surely he would make more money in NY.
