BIAS STANFORD ENTRIES

My coach entered my PR of 30:03 which I know isn't exactly national caliber but it says you can put a "speculative" time along with verifiable time. My coach put down 29:30 along with my PR knowing I ran my PR in a tactical race, plus we're both confident that I'm in better fitness than last spring. Of course I didn't get in and much like the OP I looked at who got in and noticed a lot of 10k debuts and people with slower PRs getting in. Now I'm going to the San Fran distance carnival instead which I'm not super disappointed about cause it's a great meet but it's a little irksome seeing less deserving athletes getting in just because of the program they're part of or who their coach knows. I'm from one of those schools that's part of a mid-major conference but is up to standard with major ones with regard to quality of athletics. It is annoying going to a school where our program is top-notch but we're treated like any other mid-major in relation to the actual major ones. I do wish they'd ditch the politics and allow deserving athletes in.

I'm glad this thread exists. Was going to check out the meet but now I can't give even a nickel to a school that plays favorites and keeps the registration fees of denied athletes. Low class behavior by the Stanford organizers. Thought that school was supposed to be a superior institution; obviously not.

If you want to run in a big boy meet the go to s big boy school. Dll & Dlll put on your own meet and see if the big boys show up.

I ran 14:11 (last 2k alone) this winter and 29:39 last year. My name is Bijan Mazaheri if you want to look me up. We are considering running a 5k at San Franscisco Distance Carnival, if you would like to help build a fast race there.

I'm not sure how many other good people got left out of the race. It does screw over small schools with less funding when they do this. We already bought tickets for San Franscisco because the meet director originally said I would make it in.

The issue is the tickets. The guy was 3rd at D3 nationals in xc. Likely deserves to get in.

At Cornell, one year, we went out to Notre Dame and my guy was in the third heat of the mile. I had begged to go out there, and couldn't bear to tell him. Now, there were some scratches after the DMR but it was stressful. The only time I went to Mt. Sac they had two races. An A heat going 28 flat with like 10 people in it (too fast) and then a B heat that was too slow.

This guy has run 2939 but the problem is nearly 90 guys at the D1 level did that last year. 14:11 doesn't crack the top 100. He's right at the level of a lot of my top Cornell guys and it was always hard to know what to do. He needs to be in top shape to be competitive and you don't know that's going to be the case going into the year so it's hard to plan for it on the budget. Things go well in the winter, you try to find the funds to go out there. You call ahead of time and then they don't let you in.

I noticed that Bijan is in New England, and ECAC DIII area. my coach was talking about getting some of our runners into a high caliber meet at Cornell soon. Bijan if youre within driving range from middle New York then why not to race there instead of flying cross country?

That means they can do whatever they want. It is their meet. Put on your own meet if you want to have a different entry procedure. this is Not John Chaplin abjectly defying USATF (a public organization) rules by giving favors to cronies. Entitlement is getting entry to a race you have no business being in just because you go to some big-name school.

Have fun watching the turtles race! I can't wait to attend the Diamond league meets where I can watch real athletes compete. Never been to Morocco so that should be interesting. Will miss not having a DL meet in New York, but will stop off there and have fun anyway.

Can't take a meet seriously where most of the runners don't perform to the entry standards.

You are right, I'm certainly not top D1 material, but there are lots of 14:15/29:40 guys who also don't crack the top 90 in the field. Many of those 90 guys in D1 graduated. My 14:11 doesn't crack the top 100, but the race I ran it in was far from ideal and I'm not trying to race a 5k at Stanford anyway.

I can understand them not letting in a 30:00/14:30 person, but in a 72 person field, it almost feels like a personal attack to not let me in. It would be interesting to see how many other 14:10 guys they denied.

Regarding Lamere, I don't think he is the one to focus on. He had an unbelievable cross country season and 100% deserves to be in that race. I do think it would have been fun to race him in a fast meet, especially considering how he out kicked me by .007s last year.

There's not much I can do at this point. If Stanford had been a little more objective, the SF meet would have had a lot of people in my position with similar past performances, but that does not seem to be the case. I'm going to run the SF 5k and run as fast as I can in whatever field the Princeton 10k gives me.

If the field is good and it's not during the weekend of our conference meet, then I'll see you there.

Entitlement is complaining you didn't get into a track meet and someone else did just because they went to a different school.

Grow up.

Stanford is going to accept more entries from Pac12 schools and coaches and programs they know and who are bringing many high caliber athletes to the meet year after year with a history of success.

If you are a meet director and only have a fixed number of spots in an event are you going to accept the entry of the coach you know well who you see them and their program at many meets who are generating revenue for your school with many entries? or some random coach with a single athlete you've never heard of from across the country?

The folks who run the UC system have their priorities in order. They deny superior people because it brings in more $$$.

Same thing happens to me every year except it's at Notre Dame. I meet their standard and would place in the top 5 of the events I want to run, but they won't let me in because I'm not D1. (Even though I'd be in their top 5 in XC)

Complete bull sh*t, but I just keep on keeping on. I just know that one day they'll WANT me to run at their meet and I can't wait to deny their asses.

Hell, when my coach sent the email to them, they said "Maybe". They after researching me replied with "No. Good luck at your (insert national meet I qualified for...it was NAIA, D2, or D3...not saying which)."

They obviously said right there, "It's because you're not D1."

I'll just race them at the Oly Trials in 2020 (if they make it)

It's "Biased", not "bias."

Bias is used correctly. Many people use it incorrectly, adding the "ed" when not necessary.

This is why I race the 800, much easier to put in a good solo effort if I get bumped from the fast heat of a meet (which happens quite a bit).

The prob is that the race directors don't have to seed based on TFRRS reported times. They still play favorites.

Though it's already been posted in this thread, the issue is not solely not getting into the meet. It's that mixed with the fact that the director told him he'd be in, the school had already paid for travel arrangements, and then the runner was denied. I don't see that as entitled. Don't dumb down the issue to make your point.
