I tried one after back surgery and was impressed with the unit I used. I have since graduated to a 29er mountain bike because I enjoy riding trails over needing a smooth surface.
I'm not sure what safety concerns people have with the Elliptigo?

I had never heard of this thing before and have nothing against it, but
1. nobody says things like "Huge plus: burns a ton of calories - 33% more than a bike..." unless they are advertising.
2. That's not a real thing. Calorie burn (per time?) is a function of how hard you're working, not due to some magic machine.
3. It's irrelevant - 50 calories of calorie burn can be accomplished by not eating 50 calories.
4. again, the language sounds nothing like what a real runner in a real conversation would say. It's pretty transparently advertising.
I think that the 33% comes from this study: http://www.elliptigo.com/metabolic-testing-study-compares-elliptigo-to-conventional-cycling-and-running/ "EPARC determined that the energy cost of riding an ElliptiGO required, on average, 33% more effort than cycling at that same speed." I am not sure that effort correlates to calories, but this is oft repeated in ElliptiGO advertisements or videos. I do not work for the company. I saw it on a video today https://twitter.com/elliptigo/status/702028891087458304

Wow. That's even more worthless than I thought. And running requires more effort at that same speed than ElliptiGO and crawling burns more calories at that same speed than running.
And this broken 50 lb WalMart bike requires 47.3% more effort at the same speed than a top end racing bike. Trade in your racing bike for a piece of junk and lose weight!
So the ElliptiGO is slower and less efficient than a bike. This could be the stupidest advertising comparison that I've ever heard.
What if we took one wheel off the ElliptiGO and replaced it with an anchor? Talk about the calorie burn then!
Again, nothing against the thing. Maybe you don't want to go fast. It actually looks kinda fun although I showed it to my teenage daughter and her instant reaction was that anyone riding one would look like a big dork.
But wow is that a stupid advertising comparison.
Umm, you & ElliptiNO don't know sh*t from shinola, and to quote Walter Sobchak (Big Lebowski reference), "Shut the f@ck, you're out of your element"! I am 52 yrs old, have run 26 marathons. I ran Boston last year on ZERO miles of road running due to a failing hip, only ElliptiGO miles (150-200/week). I went to the starting line 10lbs lighter than 2014, and equally fit. Perhaps if you weren't trolling LR.com to hate or working the local glory-hole at your gym after you've ridden the indoor elliptical, and God knows what or who else, you'd have some perspective. Besides you don't deserve a stand-up bicycle like the ElliptiGO, you deserve a nice road bike with no saddle, just the seat post up your arse!!! Please leave this up WeJo!!!

Relax, the question was: How does ElliptiGO stay in business?
I think we all agree that Oiselle will be fine and ElliptiGO does not sell very well.
OP must be poor or only hang out with poor joes.
Plenty of people buy this stuff. Decently well-off people in big cities. Not hicks who see the ads and say "Who would ever pay thaaaat for thaaaat, Trevor?"
My wife looooooooves Oiselle stuff. I buy it for her quite a bit too. I'm glad she enjoys wearing their clothes instead of the Nike Tempo shorts that look like poopy diapers. Seriously - look at the way the Nike shorts fit on a woman vs. Oiselle, the tempo shorts look like poopy diapers. Plus the Tempo shorts generally have a white liner. Not sure how much you guys know about women but let's just say a white liner in athletic shorts doesn't stay pretty for long (for a number of reasons).

Whoa. I didn't criticize the EliptiGO, which I'd never seen or heard of before this thread so I admit I don't know much about it, but I sure struck a nerve by criticizing its idiot advertising: "our product is slow and inefficient". Congrats on your marathoning, you're the greatest, yahoo for you! I've never ridden an indoor elliptical or a glory-hole, whatever that is, but I'd try an EliptiGO if I had the opportunity. If you want to get me a nice road bike, that'd be awesome, thanks. I can install a saddle on it.

You mad bro?
ElliptiGO's sales team seems more desperate and angry by the week. smart money says stay away.
Funny how this guy talks about sex with seat posts and glory holes yet thinks he is cool riding an elliptigo.
But what do you expect from a 52 year old hobby jogger who bought one of these?
Here is how to figure out business viability for ElliptiGo. I don't have inside knowledge but just some back of the envelope:
1. From website as of 2015, 13,000 customers and 20 employees. Assume about 2,000 units per year sold.
2. Average ticket price including accessories maybe $2k
3. Thus, $4MM annual gross revenue
4. Assume ~25-30% goes to distribution partners (probably half are direct sales so keep a good amount of gross) so $2.5-3MM net revenue
5. Assume COGS 50% with half of staff/10 employees cost in COGS = $1.25-1.5 MM gross margin
6. G&A including other 10 employees who are managers or in sales maybe $1MM
7. Thus, $250-500k EBITDA
Assuming these guys sell 2000 units a year they are profitable. Under 1500 units per year they probably lose money.
A lot of assumptions there for a such a precise number.
They are giving these things away. Not a good sign.

I would love to see ElliptiGO succeed, I can't afford one, but why would anyone not want a useful product to succeed?
Oiselle is niche but growing, and it has a very dedicated following. As someone stated upthread there's a lot of room in the women's running apparel business - most of the big brands make pretty crappy fitting clothing (even my beloved Brooks doesn't seem to consult any actual women when it comes to designing their clothes). Oiselle's clothes are hit and miss (their Roga shorts are a home run though) but they've got a pretty distinct aesthetic and POV.
Interesting someone on this thread mentioned the North Face shorts. I bought some on closeout (I'm not paying $55) and now I'm a believer. Those are great shorts. I'm talking about the 3.5" split ones and 5" split ones.
As for Oiselle and ElliptiGo, good on them for finding a niche and succeeding!
If any women want to try Oiselle, they are having a pretty good factory sale right now, 50-70% off, but you have to sign up for an account.
Free advertising:
The question is how does Oiselle go about selecting "athletes" to sponsor, much less give them to Fleshman to "coach"?
Thanks!! Used this and bought two items. I hope I love them.
