The first half of that race is somewhat hilly, in Central Park, and the second half is flat. And there can be a tailwind from mile 4 onwards

It won't be that fast, he'll run it as cool down for a 5000m. It'll be a marathon on a track.

If he were going to do this, which I doubt, he'd do a sub 1:05 half marathon to qualify.

Rupp won't run a marathon unless it's a) the trials or b) as a pacer who doesn't go the full distance. He'd have to skip indoors to qualify/prep for the trials and I don't know why he'd skip indoors when wanting speed going into an Olympic year. He won't run anything remotely close to USAs or the Olympics to interfere with that training cycle. He won't be ready after the Olympics to recover, go through a cycle, and compete. Even New York is probably too soon after the Olympics.

I think a post-OG NYCM is not out of the question - I calculate that the race would be 85 days after the 10000 final. Say he doesn't do the 5000, which is a week after the 10000.

85 days is a long time - enough to get your stuff together and ramp up again.

I like your points and would only add that while NYC probably could be a decent payday, and long enough after Rio, I'm not sure he would debut on a course that is typically slower than most of the WMM's. Both the $ would have to be right and he (or his handlers) would have to not care as much about finish time in his debut. I'm not convinced of the latter for any elite debut unless the $ is really good.

Unclear to me how big a payday NYC 2016 would be for Rupp. He isn't a "name" around here the way Meb, Deena, Kara and Shalane are, nor is he a contender for the win. Would NYRR pay him something to show up? Sure. Would it be big enough money to justify risking injury + potentially screwing up his buildup to 2017 Track Worlds? I'm guessing the answer is no.

Is this a joke? Simon Bairu "great"? The dude only ran a 27:23. He's retired now BTW. Tadesse would be a much better example. He's run 26:37 and is the WR holder at 58:23. Pretty great at both of those distances.

Agree. He will be the best American marathoner as soon as he runs one. He has shown he is strength oriented. 3:50 speed and 26:44 strength, and a 60:30 half 4 or 5 years ago showing that his strength extends more than 10k.

I would predict a 2:05:low on a legitimate course like London or Chicago, though he'd probably run NYC as his first (unless he is running the trials).

Thats almost as fast as bekele's debut and much faster than Mo Farah's debut. I doubt he can

And consider that Meb Keflezighi is a marathon specialist , ran the marathon for more than a decade and his PB is around 2:08.37
