Has it always been public knowledge that Rupp has Hashimoto's disease (which is technically an autoimmune disease)? We knew he was on meds for an under active thyroid, but I did not know that was the official diagnosis.

The most I remember is Salazar explaining Rupp was feeling tired and frequently got sick. They went to a local endocrinologist for tests, and he said his hormone levels were normal. They fly to Houston, and Dr. Brown diagnoses him with an under active thyroid.

Why do these athletes who live in Oregon use a doctor in Houston for their thyroid issues? Hashimoto's Disease could be easily treated by an Oregon doctor. It's not common, but it's not overly rare, either.

Amy emailed back that she would ask around to see if she could find a way forward and noted that Galen was “lucky to have someone working so hard in his interest.” See Exhibit 3.

Given ProPublica's journalistic method, why is AlSal only now saying that what he was accused of is false? Had he made his claims when they first contacted him, this story wouldn't have blown up as much as it did. Their process would have led to them accepting his claims and then investigating further. Instead, only one side of the story came out and other informants and claims were able to come out against him.

If we are to believe AlSal, why didn't he immediately deny the claims when he had the chance and before the article/video came out?

He wrote in his letter that he did respond to the journalists but that they chose not to publish his responses as it didn't fit their story.

His whole response admits that's not true as he says they are/have been on Tribex, Alpha Male, and at times ZMA.

You'll find many more of these kinds of misstatements. Enough in fact to fill an article longer than his rebuttal.

I wonder if Epstein has a riveting "hold back" detail(s)...something he intentionally left out of the original article & now that AlSal has responded, he'll be unloading it...who knows...I agree that this has now become a he said/she said & it could go on & on & on...& on...It's frustrating because obviously one side's lying...In cases like these when you have two completely different stories/sides, usually the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Classic move to call everyone liars and to attack the accusers.

Lance and Ryan Braun used these tatics heavily.

I find this whole situation a sad commentary on the state of journalism and the ugly side of people afforded to us through voluntary response forums like Letsrun.

Without facts, but with sufficient salacious statements, innuendo, etc., people can be essentially forced to reveal their personal medical histories to protect their names and livelihoods. I appreciate that real concerns were raised, but this trial through public media is shameful and scary, as it could happen to any of us that live in the public eye.

The BBC and Epstein better have their ducks in a row and better hope Nike isn't in a vengeful state of mind.

Let's run has been like the goofy kid in class that just wants to add more fuel to a fire for the sake of simply seeing a bigger fire while professing they're just trying to provide better lighting. They don't care if people get burned as long as more people come watch.

It seems to me that many of the principals in this story had snippets of experiences that Epstein collected and wove into a plausible fiction that was based on real events yet was no more accurate than Inglorious Ba#tards was at describing the fall of Hitler.

I'm having a hard time understanding how this means what you want it to mean. The sports federations are okay with doping and leave things like a 4:1 T:E ratio alone to permit some doping.

You're not sure it changes much? You don't have to believe the athletes are clean but to say it doesn't change much is being stubborn.

Dr. Brown is a known sports endocrinologist. Tops in the biz.

He has worked with track athletes for decades. Magness knew this. Where Magness erred was not considering the entire clientele of Brown - past and present - outside of NOP. That is actually more likely to hurt him in the long term than tossing e-grenades at AlSal and NOP.

It's a numerator and denominator game. We know that, at a minimum, Kara was diagnosed with a thyroid condition prior to joining him and Galen seems to have been diagnosed before joining him. So that would be at least 7 athletes/55 athletes. We don't know how many are using it. But we have to assume more than 7.

However according to the American Thyroid association. 12% of the American population will suffer from a thyroid problem in their lifetime. The prevalence is however higher in women than men. Most of Alberto's athletes are men. Furthermore, more than 9% have been diagnosed while they were training with him. The number is indeed very high.

That's probably why he had to exclude the athletes that were diagnosed prior to joining him. But that brings the other topic. Is this a prevalent thing with athletes in general? How many elite athletes are using this med?

Hilarious! You and many others on this thread! This is NOT "he said/she said" anymore. Alberto literally provided email evidence to REFUTE prior claims. He literally explained most of what has been claimed against him. That is not him simply calling everyone a liar and stepping back into the shadows. Read his defense again and again if you need. There is actual evidence that he has played by the rules and the fact that he does discredit his accusers is only a side effect of the bruising they gave him over the last 2 weeks.

I know this isn't over, but how can anyone claim Alberto's defense isn't spot the f on?!

I have read it and I really don't know anything more now than I did before I read it. It's very well crafted and thorough. If you thought NOP was dirty before you read it you'll probably think that they did a great job anticipating questions and are able to provide answers that sound plausible. If you thought they were clean you'll likely respond like many posters here have done and think all is good with NOP.

It really still comes down to whom you want to believe. I do think it's sad that so many people who worked with Alberto seem to dislike and disrespect him enough to make these sorts of statements, especially if the statements are false.
