He ran sub 4 in college while hating running and focusing on cross country skiing all winter. Also doesn't seem the type to dope, but I guess you can almost never know for sure

Cross country skiers can train much longer than runners and consequently can be very aerobic ally fit. In college he probably had 20 hour training weeks, which would cripple most mid distance runners.
If you can transfer that fitness to running without getting injured you can run really fast.

True was an exceptional multi sport athlete at Dartmouth. He just needed to focus...and after a year attempting to make the US Ski Team he focused on running. He would jump from XC spikes to skis then track and was All American in all of them. And XC ski at that level requires strength, a huge engine, tactical sense to be able to shift gears constantly with changing terrain, be able to race in all kinds of bad bad weather, and especially the ability to sprint after 10,15 or 20K of all out racing. I was Ben True's team captain for XC running and Nordic for 2 years at Greely High School in Cumberland, Maine. I know for a fact that he was 100% clean in high school, so I'm calling BS on this post. Anyone who knows Ben will probably agree with me in believing that he is 100% clean now and always has been. Ben is not a 'win at all costs' personality- that's part of why he left the West Coast. Ben is very kind, humble, and has spent over 15 years building up mental toughness and improving his times through altitude training and tenacious focus. If this poster hadn't been too lazy to spend a 'half hour' researching, they'd have known that Ben True won races throughout junior high and high school. Ben worked his ass off to get where he is and always did extra laps, miles, workouts etc. Despite the temptation to accuse successful athletes of cheating in this day and age, let's give them the benefit of the doubt until actual evidence emerges otherwise. -David Holman

Sorry but I was staying in a hotel room with him once and he was feeling kind of tired so he called his coach. I heard a knock on the door and there was a hollowed out pill bottle full of blue books. He just smiled and ate the books. So doper. I have the papers to prove it.
