Are you really going to root against your entire country for something one individual did? I have seen athletes from difference countries throw punches at each other after a race and I don't recall anyone not rooting for that particular country again.

Actually I don't share the view you presume regarding Victoria's Secret Catalog's because I believe people need to take responsibility for their own behavior. Your analogy betrays a misunderstanding of our perspective on this.

Nobody is claiming that these athletes are imitating ISIS, but given the climate we are now in, those gestures are offensive. It was considered funny to hire black-face performers for birthday parties in the UK in the 1950s, but times changed and that is now considered to be offensive. What was once funny or acceptable does not always remain so. Obviously we are at a moment of flux on the throat-slitting gesture.

Mostly what disappoints me about this behavior is not it's allusion (intentional or not) to actual violence. It's the cheapness of the gesture. These kids have nothing like the moral courage of their forebears, people like Tommy Smith, John Carlos, Vince Matthews, and Wayne Collett. I miss the time when athletes were willing to be edgy about important matters, rather than this cheap grandstanding.

We can agree to disagree, but your perspective is disappointing to many of us.

Either way, people can take this out of context if they want, in a society where liberals have given permission to people to choose to be offended by everything, you'll fit right in. Just know its that kind of weak minded, soft mentality that will mean you will continue to be a loser. It's just the last straw coach, preceded by all USATF's crap, hiring former drug cheats, aiding and abetting drug cheats, giving Tyson a slap on the wrist, and pretending that Justin is not still benefitting from what he did. There is nothing more disappointing than a culture that pretends to be a meritocracy but which is really a place to whitewash breaking the rules. This is not the sport my parents taught me to love.

You are absolutely correct and I have been saying this for years. Jamaica has always produced great sprinters, they have been winning global championship medals since the 1940s. With that said; however, prior to 2008, they were somewhere in the mix with Canada and Great Britain, with the U.S. occupying the dominate position as it has almost since the inception of the modern Olympics. What the Jamaicans accomplished in the 2008 Olympics is a statistical anomaly to the nth degree. Most people suspect FloJo was doping based primarily on her performances and how rapidly she improved; however, the Jamaicans in 2008 had about a half dozen athletes who made similar improvements over a similar period of time. What's unique about the year leading up to the 2008 Olympics:

1:) Angel Heredia who was one of the BALCO chemist, he moved to Jamaica in 2007. Although he denies ever living in Jamaica, but at the very least, he made several trips there that year and interesting he traveled under the name Angel Hernandez.

2:) in 2007, several prominent Jamaican athletes violated the whereabouts rule, one of which was Bolt. However, the violations were lossed out because the athletes were located with in the next day or 2 and in Bolt's case, he could not be found supposedly because he lived on a street with no street sign. The WADA agent said it was strange that people in Bolt's neighborhood could direct you to his house. And, btw, a day or 2 is all you need for most drugs to escape detection.

3.) Except for VCB, all of the top Jamaican sprinters basically dropped off of the map from the end of 2007 until the late spring of 2008. They avoided all of the meets with drug testing; they basically ran in-country, the Penn Relays and their national championships. In fact, VCB was ranked number one in the world in the 100m in 2007. VCB was living in the U.S. and went home for the 2008 Jamaican national championships and almost did not make the Olympic team, she was beaten by Kerron Stewart and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, both of whom had never broken 11 seconds. It was determined that leading up to the 2008 Olympics, JAA had done zero (0) OOC testing and in 2009, they were forced by WADA and the IAAF to implement an AD program.

Does any of this mean the Jamaicans are systematically doping, the answer is no; however, since the BP was fully implemented in 2009/10 the Jamaicans and the rest of the sprint world has seen a drop off in performances.

What the Jamaicans already know about Bailey is that he effectively removed the advantage of Bolt from the Jamaican team. Bolt split 8.65, which is one of, if not the fastest anchor splits ever run. BUT Bailey split 8.83, which is also one of the fastest ever run. If Jamaica cannot stay with Gatlin and Gay without Bolt, they cannot win.

Without a doubt it is over and has been for the last couple of years. Bolt, Blake and Powell have been the cornerstone of Jamaican men's sprinting for a decade and while they are still running well, they have certainly come back down to earth in at least the last 2 years. Perhaps you can say Bolt and Blake have not been at 100% for the last 2 years, sometimes injury is a part of how hard you have worked to get the results and your body just can't handle it anymore. And btw, Blake has had hamstring problems as far back as high school, which suggest he might get well, but will likely get injured again. The U.S. does not have and likely will not have in my lifetime another sub-9.7 sprinter, but the advantage we have over Jamaica is the fact that we can match them 3 to 1 with young 10.1 and 10.2 sprinters who have the potential become the next superstar.
