If she can replace her first 9:22/3000m with a 2:57 1000m, she can be at 8:55 for 3000, something that does not seem that much of a stretch. Add to that, running with a rabbit and avoiding half a dozen passes, mainly on turns (and one were two runners were going side-by-side), and both Disanza and Sisson could be even further down in to the 8s.

Track is fast no doubt, but when you combine the negative splitting with all the running wide to pass lapped runners, there's a lot of room for both of them to run faster in the right outdoor race.
I doubt Sisson was shocked. They apparently had an agreement to share pacing, and Sisson was surely aware of Disanza's ability.
I felt the trailing runners showed extremely poor sportsmanship by not moving out when they were getting lapped.
Do all college runners know to look out and move aside when getting lapped? I saw a very solid college runner stay in lane 1 at a Stanford track meet and just figured it wasn't intentional. I do like it when runners go way out to lane 3 because sometimes guys are on the inside of lane 2 with 3 athletes racing for the win.
