Maybe on this board Eugene is cool, but 99.9% of the rest of the usa doesn't give a damn about the mecca of track and field.
South Park, CO

Relax, pal. All I was doing was offering my opinion. Do you normally put your ignorance on public display like this?
Vegas. A lot of people won't even believe you at first when you say you are from Vegas.
Being from Liverpool NY Home of the famous Salt Museum is pretty cool as is being from Gahanna the herb capital of Ohio.
You: I'm from Sandia Park, NM
Hot supermodel : Oh wow Sandia Park that's home to the Tinkertown Museum isn't it? That is so cool.

This is the best list so far. My thoughts:
-I've never heard of La Jolla (looked it up, San DIego is obviously sick) so it makes it less cool if not everyone knows about it.
-Disagree on NYC. Some people will love it but a lot of people in the South will just think you're a damn Yankee (I'm from the South).
-Agree on Aspen, Jackson Hole, Malibu.
-Seattle and Portland should be in the first tier.
-Bend/Bellingham/Asheville shouldn't be on the list. Asheville is fine but if someone is not from the South then they won't care.
NYC is in both a national and international scope. If you're ignorant enough (not speaking to you specifically) to think that NYC i "just" some other place or irrelevant, then your opinion is irrelevant to the conversation.
Seattle/Portland - as a native Seattlite, I don't feel like they're fully they're. Portland's been cool for 10yrs, Seattle for ~20, but I'm not sure if they carry the weight.
Bend/Bellingham/Asheville are definetly a step below, but would cater to a certain niche who care about cool.
Bozeman, Santa Fe (so cool, but also kinda trashy in parts), Sun Valley/Ketchum, Taos, Park City, Steamboat, Telluride would be vying for a spot at the table. They don't carry the weight of other places, but have huge upsides, depending on your lens towards cool.
Boulder - to the Denver suburbanite aforementioned: yes, Boulder has taken a turn towards suburbia, traffic, and post-hype. That said, it's still a major draw for all the mid-west Rocky Mountain wannabee type whose parents pay $40k a year for them to come to CU (and yes, I lived in Denver for some time, worked in Boulder for some time). Whether or not those of us in Colorado know the true temperament of Boulder now, plenty of others think it's fresh.
carry on.
Cool, CA. Nuff said.

Without hesitation, the "coolest" place in America has to be the place with the largest concentration of 6th-7th-8th grade school kids.
lloooollllllllll
I have lived in Seattle for 40 years and never once heard it referred to as "sis."
There are douche bags here like anywhere. I am sure this is a top ten or better place, but yeah there are a lot of liberals who would never imagine anyone could ever think differently than they do.

I run in the Cool area often, moreso the adjacent Auburn area. It's not really cool to be from Cool, but there are some of the best running trails in the country nearby... which is pretty cool.

This. I regularly get supermodel-caliber tail as a result of saying I am from Alma. One of my buddies picked up on this so now when asked where he is from, he says Alma (in reality, he was born in Sis).
The answer is easily NYC with LA a distant second. TV and movies make this so.
Folks who denigrate LA have never lived there. It's definitely one of the best cities in the world for a multitude of reasons. Give it a go for a year or two and you'll quickly understand what they are.
I lived in Seattle for 7 years and was surrounded by the dorkiest people I have ever seen in any major US city.
