Contrary to posts in this thread, they did reserve the venue. They were overruled by community complaints last minute.

No $hit they reserved the venue. That's not news. The venue backing out is not news. Them not having their ducks in a row to mitigate this last minute circus and rule changing chicanery is news.

I've never seen someone so angry about a beer mile. Have you been drinking already? Do you need a hug?

Props for saying this. Flotrack really screwed up but they very clearly got blown last minute and you just can't control things like that. This is the first event that this team has gone into organizing. Cut them some slack. Should be a fun time anyways. Not sure if a record is going to happen on a carpet but I can't wait to watch the race.

People sure love to complain.

I'm not angry about a beer mile. I am embarrassed about another example of the lack of professionalism of one of our flagship running companies. And I wanted to point out how lame that nerd's comic strip was. Are you saying they did a good job putting on this event?

Here's the "course preview" from the race track. I feel like Symmonds is going to re-injure himself going around those turns, yikes.

No, that's not pathetic or unusual. Back in the day they even changed the marathon distance to 42195m so that the race would end in front of the royal family.

What's all this flotrack shamming for?

Flotrack had all permits and permissions for the original venue and was setting it up until the community around the original venue got word of what exactly was going to be happening. Flotrack then secured a new location within hours and already have it set up and ready to go. Great job by Flotrack if you ask me. It does sound like the turns will be tighter than a normal track but honestly does that matter? If anything, it makes it tougher to run faster and therefore a WR would be even that much more impressive.

I fail to see the fault in what flotrack has done so far...

FloTrack had a signed contract with the owner of the track, Hollywood Henderson, to use the venue for the Beer Mile. Austin ISD leases the track from Henderson the same way that FloTrack was for the World Champs.

My guess is that the "journalists" at LetsRun.com called the school district to inquire about a "binge drinking" event at the privately held track in Austin. After some of those phone calls the event had to be moved.

I don't know how much public pressure there was, most likely some competing "journalists" trying to mess it up because they weren't getting any publicity along with it.

I'm thinking the tight turns will add to the spectating value - these guys are gong to be hurting and trying to do negotiate tight turns.

Scratch that. I got the feed for about ten seconds before it cut out. Big shocker, a running event that has broadcast issues.

I was watching it for about 30 seconds including the founder of the beer mile talking with a mic that didn't work. Then it cut out. Can't load it again. I'll try back in 10 minutes.

Same happened to me, but it just came back on.

stream is back up but the sound is super F'ed. Either no sound, bad echoing sound, or cutting out mics.... bleh

Totally worth the $20 a month

first heat was won in 7:30. 2nd place was about 30 seconds behind.

C'mon Flotrak...we have to suffer thru a 15 second commercial for each and every short video clip explaining this event?
