Ryan Hall 50:25 in Pittsburgh??

Agree. RH needs to get back to the basics of racing be it road or track. He needs to see some progress and results to build confidence. Right now, regardless of who is advising or coaching, RH does not have it between the ears and is most likely still over trained.

Just my two cents, but he'd be better served racing the regional or local circuit to gain fitness and confidence back. There is no way he should be running 50 minutes with the talent he has. He's well over cooked.

Was Hall a good swimmer once?

You were ridiculed because you have absolutely no support for your guess. You were ridiculed because it makes no sense that his training paces were so far out of kilter after that race - which was 1:19 off his PR from London - that he developed chronic injuries. It's especially ridiculous because he successfully completed Chicago in 2:08 and the Olympic Trials in 2:09 after that performance in Boston and only developed chronic injuries after that.

Now Hall did tell the NY Times in 2012 that his plan for the Olympics was to run a 4:40/mi pace and that he had a 2:02 training plan from his father, but that based on the nutso talking to God stuff. It wasn't based off an assessment of his performance in Boston. But even then, he admitted he couldn't maintain that pace for more than 4 miles, so he wasn't even close to hitting that level of training. Hall has been and remains a mess, but there's no evidence to support the idea that it's all because he "thought he was a legit 2:04 runner."

Not really. I don't think he lost three years because he over trained for a few months. If I had to make a wild guess, I would say that it he's fallen apart because he keeps changing what he's doing and hasn't put together any good blocks of training. He gets injured, immediately tries to go back to marathon volume, develops no speed, runs a poor "rust buster" and is basically in no-mans-land.

3) props to Jeff Weiss. Former Slippery Rock stud and local phenom. Through the half way in 25:02 with a few guys and almost reeled in Hall. Finished 10 sec back in 11th place, 50:35.

He's LRC working class guy!!!!!

4) Shout out to Matt Gilette another PSAC stuf who has a gnarly indoor 3k PR. He was able to reel him in over last couple miles.

Yes, and even if Gilette never does anything else in running, he can tell his children, grandchildren, etc. that he beat Ryan Hall, one of America's best.
