Agree on the potential for disruption. Ayalew also looked to have disrupted Emma over the last barrier before the final water jump with that stutter step. Nothing dirty nor malicious as she was definitely clear of Emma and taken over the inner lane

Having the inside lane coming off that last turn into the final straight is crucial. Emma was just about even, and then all of a sudden 2-3 meters behind just from the abrupt change in angle

Stephanie Garcia ran courageously also, but looked to tie up really badly in gage last 75m. She' have broken 9:20 otherwise...

It was repeated out of Rupp's camp, even from Alberto, that Rupp was gunning for the 5000m AR, and that chasing it was worth forgoing the USATF 5000m championships. Rupp's recent 10000m record indicates he is likely fit enough to run 5000m AR pace.

Rupp is a 10000m strength guy 'coming down', compared to the east -african Diamond League 1500/5000 specialists. Since Rupp does not have that flat-out short-sprint, change-gears speed to go toe-to-toe tactically with these guys, particularly since he is heavily outnumbered, he needs to set up the race to his strengths, and the only way to do that is to flat-out run it wire-to-wire, at 12:50 pace. If they don't, then Rupp will make them have to earn their scalps for that race, while he comes away with the 5000m American Record.

BTW, for those of you that may be new here, criticizing the BroJo's for repeatedly bringing up the idea that the American Men could take a lead from Coburn and Simpson's front running, you may not have followed the numerous discussions we've had over Galen Rupp's last two Diamond League 5000m races. It has become a majority opinion here, and desire, to see Galen (assuming he is ready to race that day) just take it out hard from the gun and pace it an even 12:50 wire-to-wire, because that is likely his best chance of making the podium in these DL 5000m races, and more certainly his best chance of getting the men's 5000m AR. It is a meme we have gone over-and-over, and it just a little frustrating when somebody else comes along and doesn't get it yet. The BroJo's likely DO want to see Rupp get the record, and he'll earn that Blue Front Page. We hope with the repeated discussion Rupp's camp gets it. Granted, it is not a gimme, and Rupp has to be feeling it that day. But what the heck, if you are not sure, just take a shot, and get on those pacers like white-on-rice. (Assuming Nike has paid them to run 12:50 pace in the first place.)

This 9.11 should really be considered the World record, and Jenny had the old one at 9.12. It is so obvious that all the africans cheat, whether it is age cheating or otherwise. Why the IAAF even allows them to compete is beyond me. The Russian 8.58 (don't ALL Russians) was also an obvious cheat, just like the Chinese women.

Rupp's 26.44 should also be considered the real WR. No way anyone legit is running under 12.55 (if Rupp can't do it then no one can without PED's) or 3.30 for 1500m either. Webb should be the mile record holder as well.

I'm wondering what it is wejo thinks that others could "learn" from Coburn. I'm going to just wing it here and suggest that right now, the difference between Coburn and other U.S. women in the steeplechase (and I'm leaving JBS out since she's not a steepler this season) is not, primarily, that she tries harder or runs smarter. It's that she's a considerable talent who's trained herself into phenomenal shape and is making hay of that. In fact, I would take this idea even further and suggest that when any world-class runner is a good 15 or 20 seconds faster than his or her compatriots in an event lasting less than ten minutes, chances are, that runner is simply superior, and that the slower ones aren't falling short because they're ignorant or race tactics or weak or in the grip of a Letsrun-caliber fulminating case of AD/HD; they're simply not as good

This place is really fúcked úp. One day the dudes running it are praising an athlete for coming in 13 out of 13 finishers, and the very next they're basically scolding anyone who didn't perfectly emulate a woman who just set an American record.

I think that you mean that the American MEN could learn from Cobu8rn. It seems like we have quite a few studs on the women's side (Simpson, the 800 gang...)

None of us hate Rupp or want him to fail. His 26:44 and other indoor successes indicate he could break the American record for the 5K. We just want him to go for it in a non-championship year.

Wejo, I'm not sure what compels you to aggregate and diminish the American men, whose individual accomplishments far exceed Colburn's in both quality and quantity, by proclaiming that they should race in a manner that you, yourself, haven't ever done even once?

Why isn't it good enough to just give well-deserved kudos to Colburn and leave it at that? She has nothing more to teach the American men than Lauren Fleshman has to teach them about testicular fortitude. Maybe one day she can be compared to the American men, but that day hasn't yet arrived.

Great race by Coburn. She has excellent hurdle form. Was I the only one that noticed that Ayalew ran Coburn way outside just before the last water jump and messed up her steps? That was a great last lap and you could see Coburn gain an extra step over almost barrier. I think Ayalew would beat Emma soundly on a flat 3000, but with the barriers they are on an even playing field.

At the meet last night. Absolutely the highlight of the night was Emma's race. She is so damn courageous. The fans were going crazy.

There is no consensus. Galen does exactly what he says he will do. He races to win the race. He runs to give himself the best chance of winning and hopes that leads to record times, which is why he travels to fast, rabbited races. The rabbit did a great job at the PRE 10000 and the field went with him. The rabbits did not do a good job in Paris and Alimerew tried to slow down the field, just like the TV announcer on Universal said. Rupp is doing very well with the approach of trying to be there at the end. He takes what the race gives him.I have not seen someone go by the rabbits to solo a 12:50 in a DL race.
