Okay first of all, when is the last time that you had a decent girlfriend and not a highclass bimbo? Most girls are definitly not like that! I run 60 miles a week, and do not get googly eyed over JCPenny catalogs! Sex in the City is an awesome show though! But hey come one, girls are not all that bad, and if you find the right one then you should be happy. maybe you should just get rid of her. If she isn't happy with your running but it makes you happy...then why are you with her? Later down the road things are just going to get worse and she is going to expect you to spend more time with her...so drop her like a bad habit!

It's tough. I was in the same boat. I started getting with a girl in early september. We went about a month. We're "just friends now." I told her I'm going for Academic all American. I told her I ran for 8 years. I told her I got tired and fatigued a lot. Dude, you just gotta be straight with her. Let her make up her mind, don't drag it on though cause then it just makes it harder for both of you. Keep you priorities straight, yeah it could be selfish but when you're young and in college you gotta be in it for yourself. When you're 30 or 40 though and still single, you might want to start putting the girl #1 on the list and let everything else (including running?) take a back seat.

I am a runner but so is my boyfriend. He is running about 80-100 miles per week and it can be frustrating when he goes out for runs...but I do understand how important it is for him to get them in. I don't think its a control issue...more-so an "I miss you and want to spend as much time with you as possible" issue as we are in a long distance relationship. I think that you need to be open with your girlfriend about it now tho...as things could get worse. If she doesn't understand now and refuses to understand it, then things won't get any better.
If I were you, I would for sure slap that hoe around a little. I mean who cares what that idiot thinks, she isn't your wife, aint no ring on your finger, tell her to get off your jock.
Also, the next time she complains that you run too much or whatever the f***, totally say your going running and run to your friends house and get trashed and have some random sex with a diseased prostitute, then when you come home and have make-up sex, you can laugh in her face.
in college, a couple years ago, my GF of 5 years broke up with me, and running was cited....now, talking to her occasionally, she reveals that running was a major factor. she just says "i cant explain it", and gets noticeably irritated and frustrated. What a f***ing psycho. People without passion are pathetic, and I truely feel sorry for her.

Been married for more than 15 years. She sometimes gets mad when I race. Says that my only hobbies are running and f***ing! Did about six races since may, and had planned on a fun run this morning, but my lady threw a fit. I couldn't figure it out, but when when I asked if she wanted to run instead of me, she did a compleat turnaround. Now she's happy, and I might even get laid again tonight.

Identify something she does of equivalent obsession and that is a fair trade for time apart. Also let her know that you will be with her longer given the health benefits of running. Her reaction to that will tell you if the relationship will last.

Running is a very important part of your physical, emotional, and psychological health. She should want a healthy man. If she can't understand this, leave her to date a less healthy man.
You could also try the Ryan Hall/ Sarah Hall approach. Ask her to be your support and get out on a bike to help with your pacing etc and even take videos/ photos. That way she is still getting to spend time with you and she is helping you achieve your running goals. That kind of support is what a true relationship is all about. You in return could try to get involved with one of her hobbies. If she doesn't take to that, then it doesn't sound like she really wants to try to make the relationship work.
