The fact that GG tried to go inside on two different athletes when she had all the room in the world and running 5-10 secs/mile faster than both. If I'm coaching another athlete I'm looking to her to come FAST up on the rear,try inside, break HARD, then pass with a little salt as she passes. And if that happens then IM PROTESTING.
She couldn't go around these women the way Rupp went around Hill, CLEAN.
Remember that Rupp went down at the NCAA champs and no dq was requested as contact is expected in a tight race, but between 2 ships of different speeds, come on!

Now if that's not a DQ, no way that USATF stuff would be.
But every example shown of a DQ has been from pushing or some contact with a hand or part of the arm.
This is not similar to the Grunewald or Hill DQ.
No one has shown a DQ of someone stepping on a foot or angling their body in front of someone.
No extended arms or hands. No one fell at USATF.
That would be a DQ for unsportsman like conduct, not obstruction.
Of course there aren't any comparable examples. 99.9% of athletes are'nt stupid enough to run up on another athlete, in the last lap of a championship race, when they have plenty of room to go around. They were clear of all the other runners, and she knew she had way more left. Anybody else in her position, would, and have done the correct thing and made the pass without making unnecessary contact.
Virginia's AAA State boys 1600 last year had a DQ for interference. A boy drifted into lane 2 or 3 as another tried to pass just about 5m from the finish line. He held him off because of it, but got DQed.

Yes, they have many more DQ's in high school than pros.
Even so, this is not similar.
Drifting wide to angle someone off heading to the finish line is not what happened here.
That's impeding a runner for a sustained period.
Here's another challenge:
Someone find a video of another runner dumb enough to attempt a pass on the inside of a banked indoor turn in the final lap. That same video should answer the first question too.
Regardless of whether it should have been a DQ, GG is running in a way that is simply not good enough for the level she is running. She has talent but she flat out sucks at racing. That incident should never happen except maybe in a pack. In an open area that move was egregious.
Incidental contact is one thing, I just think running that stupidly should be punished harshly.

Have you clicked on the videos yourse.f? Most of the videos were people posting examples of stuff way worse than what happened in ABQ but didn't result in DQs.

This is at the finish of the race. Vastly different than Hill 1k out from the finish. I agree that the rules don't take the difference into account but common sense practice has.

As the coach of Wyner, I believe wyner just shoved him to the side. I kind of wish they had an overrule on that one. LIke the officials call it a foul but smayda says - i'm fine with it.
Sort of like in tennis when you call your own lines.
Yes it was a foul but in a team competition it's sort of like calling holding on an offensive lineman for holding a guy on his own team.

I would image any case of a foul being called due to clipping a runner's heels would be the same, and that has happened many times.
You seem to be looking for one in which the runner didn't fall. I don't think the fact that Jordan didn't fall should take away from the fact that she was fouled and could have fallen.
Remember, the foul is in the action, not in the result(falling).

not following your reasoning at all, rojo - the text clearly says that the official failed 'to realize that the runner was Bumbalough, not Rupp'
Just change that last 'Bumbalough' to 'Hill'
